《道因法师碑》全名为《大唐故翻经大德益州多宝寺道因法师碑》,唐龙朔三年(663)镌立,现存陕西西安碑林,是欧阳通的代表佳作。
欧阳通,字通师,潭州临湘人,欧阳询之子,新旧《唐书》绵有传。欧阳通师承父法,刻意临摹,锐志
钻研,后与父齐名,世称他们父子的书体为“大小欧阳体”。
欧阳通楷书虽出于父,但却写得更瘦硬,更劲挺,特别是主笔横画在收笔时末锋飞起,富有浓重的隶意,这在此碑帖中多有体现。此碑书法笔力遒健,险峻瘦怯,但锋芒棱角太露,这既促成了欧阳通书法的多鲜明特色,也带来了其另一方面的局限,即“少含蓄之趣”(杨士奇)。清何绍基称此碑“险劲横铁,往生育突过乃翁”。故临习此碑既要掌握欧阳通楷书点事谨严清劲、结字雅正、取势多端的特点,又要防止其用笔过于生硬尖锐、字形过分扁平倾倒等问题。

The full name of "Taoin Master Stele" is "The Great Tang Dynasty Pass through the Taoin Master Stele of Duobao Temple in Dade Yizhou". Tang Longshuo stands three years (663). The existing stele forest in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, is Ouyang Tong's representative masterpiece.

Ouyang Tong's regular script is from his father, but it is thinner and stiffer. Especially when the main stroke is finished, it is full of strong sense of subjection, which is reflected in this inscription. This stele calligraphy is vigorous, precipitous and timid, but its sharp edges and corners are too dew, which not only contributes to the more distinct features of Ouyang Tong's calligraphy, but also brings about its limitations on the other hand, that is, "less implicit interest" (Yang Shiqi). He Shaoji of the Qing Dynasty called the monument "dangerous horizontal iron, passing through Naiweng to bear". Therefore, in order to study this tablet, we should not only grasp the characteristics of Ouyang Tong regular script, such as rigorous and vigorous writing, elegant and correct writing, and multi-end potential, but also prevent its use of pens too rigid and sharp, too flat and toppled font.
