Annotations:
If I want to write new poems, it tastes like water. White clouds light never, to accompany me (this word to go) lonely chant in the North window. The wine tastes sweet and sour, facing Jiusui Mountain. White clouds and friendless, the moon and birds and the past. On August 20, I passed through the Yunqi Tower of Zongdao, and ordered Yu Fu Zi to write poems in an easy room. It's rainy and cool, and the mountains are full of sunshine, so it's very quiet. Zan.
No title or postscript. The seal of collection is on the one side of the Qing Dynasty seal of the collection of books by Daizhi Zipei in Runzhou.
Tan Shi is a seven-rhythm poem written by Ni Zan as a friend of Zongdao. In his poems, he hides away from the world and lives alone with the white clouds and fowls.
This book is the only large-character regular script in Nizan's surviving works, using a rare form of vertical mounting. His calligraphy is straight, neat and clear, plain and vigorous in composition, strong in closing, elongated as far as possible, and should be judged by his style of writing in his later years.
