展览策展人、广东省博物馆学术期刊部副主任兰维介绍，水陆画是应佛教水陆法会需要诞生的、具有特定功用的一种绘画艺术。中国水陆画艺术内容丰富，形式多样，风格各异，能够充分反映不同地域文化和传统习俗。水陆画工笔重彩，设色艳丽，富丽堂皇，气势恢宏，具有极强的视觉冲击力，蕴含着独特的东方审美意蕴。
此次展览由广东省博物馆主办，汇集了首都博物馆、山西博物院等多家博物馆的70幅水陆画精品。其中，包括明天顺年间宝宁寺水陆画、明慈圣皇太后绘造水陆画等16幅宫廷水陆画以及山西、甘肃等地民间水陆画，珍贵文物占比近70%。

展览分为以法相会、艺苑奇葩、水陆万象、水陆余音四个部分，从艺术背景、艺术特色、艺术内涵以及艺术的保护和传承等方面全面呈现水陆画的艺术魅力。
兰维介绍，由于年代久远，又经历过长期的烟熏火燎，水陆画大多已淹没不存，留存至今而又为人所知者并不多。又因其功能性强，仅供法会使用，所以就更鲜为人知。
此次展览制作了水陆画视频，将国内外有代表性的水陆画作集中介绍。此外，还播放书画修复视频，并开发制作水陆画修复互动程序，观众通过修复视频和互动程序，可了解包括水陆画在内的中国传统书画的修复过程，从而理解书画修复的复杂性和水陆画保存至今的不易。

Among them, there are 16 palace water and land paintings, including Baoning temple water and land paintings in the reign of tomorrow Shun, the water and land paintings painted by the Empress Dowager of the Ming Dynasty, and folk water and land paintings in Shanxi, Gansu and other places. The exhibition produced a video of water and land paintings, which will focus on the representative water and land paintings at home and abroad. In addition, it also plays calligraphy and painting restoration videos, and develops and produces interactive programs for water and land painting restoration. Through the restoration videos and interactive programs, the audience can understand the restoration process of Chinese traditional calligraphy and painting, including water and land painting, so as to understand the complexity of calligraphy and painting restoration and the difficulty of water and land painting preservation.
