孙多慈（1913－1975），安徽寿县人，她的祖父孙家鼐是清末重臣，历任工、礼、吏、户部尚书和中国首任学务大臣，曾一手创办京师大学堂(北京大学前身)；父亲孙传瑗（养癯）曾参加晚清民主革命，为一代名士，历任孙传芳秘书和国民党安徽省常委。孙多慈自幼酷爱丹青，是徐悲鸿女弟子中得其真传且较有成就者之一。20世纪40年代初嫁与临海许绍棣。1948年任台湾师范大学艺术学院教授，后任院长。75年因患癌症逝于美国洛杉矶。
因为喜欢绘画，孙多慈于1930年到南京中央大学美术系作旁听生。当时徐悲鸿正好是美术系主任，也时常亲自授课。因为孙多慈的冰雪聪明，加上一定的绘画天赋与其少女的清新纯真，在艺术家徐悲鸿的眼中，自然是可爱且又可心的。于是，悲鸿先生的笔下就多了一些描绘孙多慈少女风姿的素描与油画。而孙多慈虽说出于名门之后，但在这样一位风华绝代的艺术大师的呵护与关照中，其内心自然是不复矜持的。因此在当年的南京中央大学，二人之间就被一些小道消息传得沸沸扬扬。同时也造成了徐悲鸿与其当时的夫人蒋碧薇之间的龃龉。
1931年7月，孙多慈以第一名的成绩正式考取了中央大学美术系。在以后的4年里，孙徐二人师生间的情感日见笃厚。

1935年，孙多慈毕业于中大。在徐悲鸿的帮助下，她于毕业之初就出版了个人画集。在《中华书局收藏近代名人手迹》中所收集的徐悲鸿给当时中华书局负责人舒新城的三十九通书札里，就有一些是记录当年徐悲鸿为孙多慈操作出版画集的经过，也有之后二人相恋之苦及遭受孙多慈父亲极力反对的事情真相。
后来，因为父亲的反对，孙多慈到了丽水的一所中学任教。而身心俱疲的徐悲鸿也应邀去印度讲学，一去四五年不归。到1942年春回国时，孙多慈已经人介绍并在其父亲的安排下，认识并嫁给了时任浙江省教育厅厅长的许绍棣。许绍棣那时40岁上下。已是有了2个女儿的父亲。他的原配夫人由于肺病已去世不久。
