Kurt was born in Beida Rio, Errol Province, and a preliminary study in Paris L'OREAL des Beaux of higher art in Toulouse before going to Paris. Under the tutelage of Leon Cogniet, Alexander Cabanel and William Adolf Bouguerea. In 1863, he made a successful debut salon, and from 1870s, his popularity grew rapidly.
