张炳琳，笔名汉瑛，安徽太和人。出身于教育世家。自幼喜爱绘画，后考入安徽大学艺术系学习国画，受到张书旂、肖龙士等教诲。1948年毕业后定居杭州。1949年经江丰、倪贻德先生介绍加入中华全国美术工作者协会，1956年经潘天寿、周天初介绍加入中国文联浙江分会，1960年经潘天寿、朱琦介绍加入中国美术家协会浙江分会。生前一直从事美术教育工作，曾担任浙江省老年书画研究会会长（兼画院院长）、名誉会长。
擅长中国意笔山水墨花鸟画，长期从事美术教育工作，原教者不少成为专家教授，桃李满天下。作品参加国内外美术团体举办的联展和个人展，获的社会好评。得到金奖、银奖、荣誉金奖、国际金奖以及"世界艺术名人"称号。传略入编"中国美术家人名大辞典"、"世界名人录"等大型画辞典和画册中。
