马西光,一九三二年生。山西临猗人。擅国画。又名光夫,扎西,号雪牦,斋号牦斋。1948年参加革命。曾先后就学于西北军政大学艺术学院、西安美术学院国画系。1958年到青海,从事美术编辑、美术组织、美术创作,现为青海省文联专职画家。中国美术家协会会员,美协青海分会副主席,青海省政协委员,擅长水墨人物画。青海美术摄影展览办公室。曾任中国美协青海分会副主席、玄圃画院副院长。
著有《写意人物画琐谈》、《马西光作品集》、《马西光画集》、《写意人物画谱》、大学国画教材《水墨写意人物画技法》等。
作品《瀚海晓月》获建国30周年美展奖、《琴声悠悠》获’97首届艺术大赛金奖,《新姐妹》等多幅作品为中国美术馆等单位收藏。1999年入围美协中央电视台举办的《国画五十家》,2001年《月韵》入选百年中国画展。曾先后在日本、台湾、新加坡、香港、马来西亚、广州和深圳等地举办个人画展,专著有《写意人物画琐谈》、《马西光作品集》、《马西光画集》、《写意人物画谱》、大学国画教材《水墨写意人物画技法》等。

我与画家马西光结识已有十余载,近几年同在深圳,时相过从,切磋画艺,愈觉投缘。对于西光的画,由于喜爱,看过不少,却还不曾深入研究过。这里所写只是一些零星的读画心得。西光以他的高原人物画称誉画坛,屡屡获奖,多被收藏。他笔下的少数民族人物以及牦牛、骆驼、驴、马等动物形象,莫不具有独特的个人风格和美学特质,显示着作者的艺术灵性、创造才能和一个成熟画家所具有的全面修养。
读马西光高原吉祥人物画:豪放强劲 秀逸妩媚
当代著名人物画家马西光以他的高原人物画享誉画坛。他的艺术具有强烈的地方色彩、浓郁的边塞诗风、意味深长的东方文化神韵和蓬勃向上的人生情怀。他笔下的少数民族人物以及牦牛、骆驼、驴、马等动物形象。远离了悲凉、苦涩、舒缓、浑厚的情调,吟唱这块粗犷、豪放又充满雄风的土地和赞美生活在这块土地上的人们。他在青海高原生活了近40个春秋,西北高原特有的人情风物、陶瓷故乡深厚的文化传统,培养了他的艺术。他熟悉这里的土地,热爱这里的人民,他的生命与情怀,他的艺术之根已经深固地扎在高原上,因此他才能从那里汲取到不尽的灵感之源,塑造出众多的有血有肉、有情有性、生机勃勃的人物,成为西北高原上独特美的发现者,创造出高原画派豪放强劲而有秀逸妩媚的画风。
马西光的学养深厚。既有扎实的造型能力又有传统的笔墨功夫,同时善于吸取了西方绘画的有益营养,为我所用。在他创作的人物画中,他从形体结构出发,以墨的团块来结构体积。不是对象的自然模仿,而是在研究对象的动态规律,掌握对象形体结构规律以及人物的个性特征的基础上,经过大胆的取舍,有目的地强化或弱化处理,以洗练的笔墨在高度概括中来表现人物的形、神、情、意。他笔下的形象是“不似之似”的,和生活中的原形有一定的差距。但又是生活中呼之欲出的人物。
马西光不但在人物造型上追求意象造型方法,而且在画西北牦牛和其他对象时也在探索这种方法。马西光笔下的牦牛堪称一绝。他不但把握住了牦牛形体运动的特点,而且表现了牦牛的气质和奔突不羁的强悍的牛性。尤为称道的是,他把原始洞穴壁画,汉代画像和古代雕刻中的造型方法融会于自己的造型之中,在技法上又把泼墨、拓印与勾线相结合,在墨沉淋漓之中见出斑斓与古厚。由他创造的这种“拓墨皴法”,已经发展成为一种新的绘画语言。
透过他在高原风情一系列作品中创造的一个或一组鲜活的形象,似乎可以窥见那里充满诗意和情趣的生活画卷。画面的全部魅力来自于闪现在对象的表情、动态上那种独特的美丽、纯洁、素朴、真诚的美感。画家似乎带有某些着意设计、安排的“戏剧性”效果,使富于形式美感的生活场景的描绘和人物合为一个浑然的整体。从人物的神情动态扩展到整个画面,增强了作品的整体表现力和感染力。他驾驭的鸿篇巨制。整体的恢弘气势、人物的多彩多姿令人赞叹;他信手拈来的人物小品,诗意盎然,笔情墨趣跃然纸上。他的作品有种反璞归真的野趣和难以明言的精神上的震撼性与穿透力。他的创作心态是开放的,敢于大胆吸收外国现代艺术中的一些观念、精神、观察与构成方法。但他又不从外部形式去作机械地模仿。在他显示着浓厚现代文化意识的作品中。他不因追求现代性而泯灭了民族性,也不因弘扬了民族性而湮灭了创作个性。
马西光是西北高原传统文化沃土中孕育出来的一朵具有异样香味的奇葩。
Personal Profile
Ma Xiguang was born in 1932. Linyi people in Shanxi Province. Good at Chinese painting. Also known as Guangfu, Zhaxi, No. Xueyao, No. Yazhai. He joined the revolution in 1948. He studied in the Art College of Northwest Military and Political University and the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts. In 1958, he went to Qinghai, engaged in art editing, art organization and art creation. He is now a full-time painter of Qinghai Provincial Literary Union. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, vice chairman of Qinghai Branch of the Association of Fine Arts and member of the CPPCC of Qinghai Province. He is good at ink figure painting. Qinghai Art Photography Exhibition Office. He was Vice Chairman of Qinghai Branch of China Artistic Association and Vice President of Xuanyuan Painting Academy.

Individual Achievements
Hanhai Xiaoyue was awarded the 30th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China Art Exhibition Award, The Sound of the Qin was awarded the Golden Prize of the 1997 First Art Competition, and New Sisters were collected by China Art Museum and other institutions. Fifty Chinese Paintings, sponsored by CCTV of the Association of Fine Arts in 1999, and Yueyun in 2001, were selected for the Centennial Chinese Painting Exhibition. He has held individual exhibitions in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. His monographs include "Talks on Freehand Figure Painting", "Masiguang Works Collection", "Masiguang Painting Collection", "Freehand Figure Painting Spectrum", "The Techniques of Ink Freehand Figure Painting" and so on.

I have known the painter Ma Xiguang for more than ten years. In recent years, I have been in Shenzhen with him. I have been learning about painting skills and become more and more attached to each other. As for Xiguang's paintings, I have seen many of them because of my love, but I haven't studied them in depth. What I've written here is just a few bits of reading and drawing experience. Xiguang is known for his plateau figure paintings, which have won many awards and been collected. His ethnic minority characters and animal images such as yaks, camels, donkeys and horses all have their own unique personal style and aesthetic characteristics, which show the author's artistic spirituality, creative ability and comprehensive accomplishment of a mature painter.

Ma Xiguang is well-educated. Both solid modeling ability and traditional brush and ink skills, while good at absorbing the beneficial nutrition of Western painting, for my use. In his figure paintings, he starts from the body structure and uses the block of ink to construct the volume. It is not the natural imitation of the object, but on the basis of the dynamic law of the object, the rule of the object's body structure and the character's personality characteristics, through bold choices, intentionally strengthening or weakening the treatment, to express the figure, spirit, emotion and intention of the character in a highly generalized way by washing and practicing the pen and ink. His image is "unlike" and has a certain gap with the original form of life. But it's also the person that comes out of life.
Ma Xiguang not only pursues image modeling method in character modeling, but also explores this method in drawing northwest yaks and other objects. The yak in Masiguang's works is absolute. He not only grasped the characteristics of yak body movement, but also showed the temperament of yak and the strong and unruly nature of yak. In particular, he blended the original cave murals, Han Dynasty portraits and ancient sculptures into his own sculpture.
