中国版画家协会会员、天津美术家协会会员。1984年毕业于天津美术学院绘画系版画专业。现为天津美术学院版画系副教授。
多年从事素描、速写、色彩、版画基础教学工作。有多幅素描、速写作品发表。编著出版十余本有关基础教学的专业书籍。著有《素描头像习作集》、《美院考王·素描石膏》、《高考素描范图》、《高考速写范图》、《素描人物头像》、《突破难关·速写人物》、《考前训练·速写》、《试卷、习作点评选》、《素描》、《速写》、《速写人物教学》、《人物速写写生技法》、《吕培桓高考速写实践教学》、《速写人物·写生教学新编》、《水粉人物·写生教学新编》、《吕培桓人物速写范画精选》、《名师速写本②吕培桓速写》。
水彩画和版画作品多次参加国内外展览。版画作品被中国美术馆、台湾美术馆收藏。
