张善孖（1882.7.12—1940.10.20），原名正兰，单名泽，字善孖。四川省内江人，1882年7月12日生，是国画大师张大千的二哥。10岁入私塾读书，课余时即随母学习绘画，后进内江师范学堂学习。曾任教于内江小学和内江中学。
1903年东渡日本，先入明治大学经济科学习，后因爱好绘画，又入该校美术专修科。1905年中国同盟会在日本成立，旋即加入。
1907年归国后，参加了同盟会的革命活动，曾任四川省咨议局议员。辛亥革命后，任蜀军第二师第二旅少将旅长。后因反对袁世凯复辟称帝，被通缉，而再次出亡日本。
1919年返川，先后任乐至、南部、阆中、乐山、蓬溪、遂宁、三台等县盐场知事。1924年调北京，历任总统府咨议、财政部佥事、国务院咨议、直鲁豫巡阅使署顾问等职。
1927年因愤于官场腐败，毅然辞去一切职务，归隐上海，与八弟大千以书画售世维生。在一生中，最喜画虎，也最擅画虎。
1937年抗日战争爆发后，到武汉得知国共第二次合作已经形成，极为兴奋，当即创作巨幅国画《怒吼吧，中国》。
1937年底抵达重庆，被聘为国民政府赈济委员会委员。1938年又赴昆明，埋首绘画，并连续创作了《弦高犒师》、《苏武牧羊》、《精忠报国》、《文天祥正气歌》等许多优秀作品，宣扬抗日救国，并在各地巡回展览。
1938年回到重庆，接受国民政府的委托，出国宣传募捐；1939年—1940年先后在法国、美国举办画展和讲演，宣传介绍中国人民抗日斗争。在出国宣传近两年中，共举办100多次画展，前后所得捐款共达美金20多万元，其中个人义卖画虎就得款10多万美元，并且美国纽约佛恩大学特赠他名誉法学博士学位，华盛顿黑人大学、芝加哥艺术学院、哥伦比亚艺术学院等校也纷纷聘请他担任名誉教授。
1940年9月抱病归国，受到社会各界的热烈欢迎与高度评价。回国后又日夜举行报告会，介绍世界抗战局势。
由于长期过度劳累，1940年10月20日病逝于重庆歌乐山。
先生是一位传统功底极为深厚的画家，善画走兽、山水、人物、花卉，尤善画虎。由於虎是“百兽之王”，也是威武和力量的象征，古往今来，不少名家与画虎结下了不解之缘。为了画好老虎，张善孖曾在苏州网师园内豢虎以供写生，故他笔下的老虎千姿百态，作品形神兼备，精妙沉雄。林语堂曾称赞道：“他画的老虎，凡一肌、一脊、一肩、一爪，无不精力磅礴，精纯逼真”。
