一九八九年大学毕业时，曾有可能分配到西藏拉萨艺术学校做美术工作，后因种种原因未能实现，时至今日还是多多惋惜。
第一次去西藏是一九九二年，这一次到西藏是画家人生经历的极大与丰富，画家一边写生拍照一边给老外画肖像卖画赚路费，一路搭顺风车前行，把画抵押给旅店老板抵食宿，这次奇异而不可思议的西藏之行奠定了画家今后的创作方向。
之后画家又多次进藏写生采风，每次的靠近都让激起画家无比的绘画热情，创作了多幅以质朴的藏族人民为主题的油画作品。
