赖少其(1915-2000),广东普宁市人,斋号,木石斋。他独创的“以白压黑”技法,成为新徽派板画的主要创始人。解放后,历任华东美术家协会党组书记,安徽美术家协会主席,中国板画家协会副主席,上海美术家协会副主席,广东美术家协会名誉副主席,安徽省政协副主席等。赖少其先生是杰出的革命文艺战士,更是中国当代著名书画艺术大师。他长期兼任省美协、省书协主席,并为历届中国文联委员、中国美协和书协常务理事、中国作家协会会员、西泠印社社员。1996年被授予鲁迅版画奖。

赖少其
,籍贯广东普宁,中国当代画坛领袖之一,有“艺坛圣哲”之称,在日本被称为“中国画伯”。
1915年生于广东省普宁县下市乡(今普宁市池尾街道办华市村)。
赖少其1932年考入广州市市立美术学校西画系,1934年起致力于木
刻创作。1936年毕业于广州美术专科学校。
1937年在广东、广西举办巡回抗日木刻漫画展览。
1938年参加中华全国木刻界抗敌协会,并被选为“中华全国木刻界抗
敌协会”理事。
1938年-39年任广西桂林《工作与学 习》、《漫画与木刻》抗战刊物的编辑兼发行人。曾被鲁迅誉为“最有战斗力的青年木刻家”。
1939年10月参加新四军,1941年在“皖南事变”中被捕,被关押在“上饶集中营”,在狱中坚贞不屈、顽强斗争,后越狱回到苏北解放区。
1942年-1948年先后历任《苏中报》副刊编辑、新四军一师宣传部文艺科长、四纵队二十九团政治处副主任、四纵队宣 传部副部长、八纵队宣传部部长。解放战争时期,因创建“立功运动”,被评为“干部一等功臣”。
1949年入华东大学,后在安徽省文联赖少其创作室从事书画创作。
1949年7月,赖少其先生参加第一届全国文 代会,为中国人民解放军代表第一副团长,同年作为代表出席第一届全国政协会议,为三野代表团秘书长。
1949年10月后,历任南京军管会文艺处处长、中共 南京市委宣传部副部长兼南京市文联主席。
1952年后,任中共华东局文委委员、华东文联副主席兼秘书长,上海文联副主席、上海美协副主席、兼上海中国画院 筹委会主任。
1959年2月任中共安徽省委宣传部副部长兼省文联主席、党组书记,
1963年被选为安徽省人大代表、第三届全国人大代表,1983年4月任安徽省政协副主席。
1986年调回广州,在其“木石斋”专事书画创作。增补为第六届全国政协委员,后续任第七届委员。
1987年10月被选为广州市美协名誉主席,
并任广东画院艺术顾问。
1995年,赖少其率先将他创作的一批作品捐赠给筹建中的广州艺术博物院。广州艺术博物院特设“赖少其艺术馆”分期陈列其捐赠作品。
1996年被授予鲁迅版画奖。

1986年,年逾古稀的赖少其重回岭南,定居广州。对于这位1915年出生于广东普宁农村的艺术家来说,从少年时在广州从事新兴木刻运动,投身民主解放、民族独立革命,到建国前长期戎马关山、颠沛流离、回旋战斗于烈火硝烟,再到解放后亦官亦艺的9年徜徉海上、26年迷情黄山的漫漫人生之路,这一次的回归故里,似乎又是一个“少小离家老大回”的老套人生故事,似乎宿命的圆圈将要锁定这位清疏俊朗、同时又大病缠身的老人……尽管故乡广东的党政领导人和美术界给予了赖少其以崇高的礼遇与照拂,尽管南国的温暖和湿润对老人的身体殊多裨益,尽管岭南的“二高一陈”谢世后尚有关山月、黎雄才双星照耀,但这一画派较之清末和民国时的鼎盛早已风光不再……如此晚境,对于视绘事如生命的赖少其,难言必善。亲朋好友中已有人隐隐担忧,甚至预言赖少其将会在南国缤纷的木棉树下,在喧闹和嘈杂的包围中,走完荒凉寂寞的人生逆旅。再加上当时社会上传言,长期生活和工作在安徽的赖少其早已将江淮大地视为自己的精神家园和第二故乡,非常愿意终老于彼。这里有赖少其作于1991年的《黄山之梦》可为佐证。画中题写道,“老夫归故里,日日梦黄山。梦中写来苦,笔笔汗湿衫。”魂牵梦萦,其苦何堪。安徽对于赖少其已经不是故乡胜似故乡!然而当时身居安徽省政协副主席之位的赖少其连扩大一点自己画室的愿望也无法解决。一生大节铮铮、磊落大气的赖少其虽然不会张扬计较这些琐屑细末,但是也不难猜想,赖少其间或在咀嚼内心的悲喜时,一定不免有些失落的滋味。这一切都使赖少其的叶落归根多少带有一丝无可奈何的悲凉色彩
在历史与现实中,常常会有一些以煊赫的家世和富贵的资财而自傲于世的人,但如果剥去他们的光环,便不难发现其内心的伧俗。而一个真正精神充盈的人,无论其出身如何卑微、生活如何清贫、境遇如何寂寥,我们也终会发现他的气质华美与高贵,而烛照其英雄本色的点点薪火,往往便是他们拼尽生命全力耕耘于兹的诗文书画。或如“语不惊人死不休”的杜工部之史诗,或如“满纸荒唐言,一把辛酸泪”的曹雪芹之文章,或如徐青藤、垢道人、黄宾虹诸人“墨点无有泪点多”之绘画。
赖少其的全面修养和多才多艺在当代画坛是公认的,在诗文、版画、书法、篆刻甚至油画等方面皆极有成就。然而,今天看来,这些只不过是赖少其艺术道路上渐行渐远、渐登渐高的一个个台阶。而最能代表其成就的,无疑是他在中国画领域的非凡创造。
赖少其艺术馆
2005年12月21日,位于合肥市政务区石台路与休宁路交叉口南200米的赖少其艺术馆正式开馆。
展品按赖少其一生艺术风格的演变历程进行陈列,全面展现了赖少其一生的艺术发展轨迹,主要分为“版画时期”、“黄山时期”、“丙寅变法时期”、“八十岁以后”四大部分,展厅采取了具有岭南地方建筑特色的“西关大屋”的风格进行装饰,并以一牌坊虚拟赖少其的画室——木石斋,以“木石”象征赖少其一生从版画到国画的艺术历程,以及其质朴坚实的艺术风格。
赖少其书法
赖少其在少年时代,就开始学郑板桥的法帖,后来把兴趣和精力专注在二王的行书上,一丝不苟地反复临习《兰亭序》,对王羲之书法的点画,字的结体、章法、神韵都一一把握,了然于心。赖少其学习《兰亭序》三十年没有间断,临摹千遍以上。楷书学欧阳询,又醉心金农,心追手摹漆书二十年,终成自己风格。他用金农的“漆书”来题画,十分和谐。“漆书”具有赖少其审美情趣中的“拙”和“朴”。金农“漆书”方笔如削,既天真可爱,笨得高雅,又富有金石味,衬托出其画的磅礴气势。
赖少其说:“我写金农是为题画需要,同时形成自己的风格总要有个过程,我临金农并不是以像为止。”他要对金农的“漆书”进行创新,于是又认真地研究邓石如和伊秉绶的书法,他感到伊秉绶的隶书有装饰美,但嫌其过于刻意,又认为邓石如的隶书较为厚重,两方面择善而从,融合于金农的“漆书”中。这一糅合,使赖少其书法以金农的书法为主体,化入伊秉绶的某些笔法,方笔取劲利,转折处参以圆浑,大至擘窠板书,小至蝇头真书,无不透露出雄厚的力感。他的漆书端庄凝重,富有金石味;行草则流走自然,在风华婉转中显露出艺术上的天真和淳厚,体现着拙和朴的美。它“既有金农用笔苍劲、率意的古拙味,也有邓石如以重为巧,笔力精绝的力度,还有伊秉绶的装饰美。”这些都巧妙地熔于一炉,形成了赖少其朴拙奇崛、圆劲浑厚、潇洒飘逸的书法风格。
赖少其篆刻
赖少其早年参加鲁迅先生倡导的新兴木刻运动,雕刻受原苏联、德国凯绥·珂勒惠支等影响,创作大量抗日救亡版画作品,在民族斗争的磨练中技法更为纯熟。
二十世纪五十年代,赖少其在上海主持华东美协工作期间,与黄宾虹、傅抱石、朱屺瞻、潘天寿、谢稚柳、吴湖帆、陆俨少、沙孟海、林散之等一批老书画艺术家们交往密切。一代大师们对金石都有深刻地研究,黄宾虹先生收集古印一千多方,也精于刻印和善于以印入书;如唐云、王个簃、来楚生、白蕉、钱君陶等本身就是治印高手;他的一位好友、柳亚子外甥徐孝穆,是我国著名竹刻大师,所刻竹、壶、砚、印,皆为神妙极品;赖少其欣赏之中得到甚多教益和启迪。
安徽篆刻具有悠久的历史,明清时期即开创了辉煌的业绩,徽派篆刻书法艺术对全国产生极为深远的影响。五十年代末,赖少其到安徽后,研究程邃、邓石如的古徽派篆刻书画艺术,又深入了解徽州艺人所创作的木雕、砖雕和石雕等艺术,为劳动人民精雕细刻并又华美的图案文字而感叹和赞赏。
赖少其渊博的学识、深厚的修养、奋斗的经历、高尚的人品,更重要是他学而不倦、精益求精的认真态度,从版画、雕刻的坚实根基,跨越到更广泛的金石书画艺术之海,取得了成功也就在情理之中。他创作数百方篆刻作品,将其中135方自编“无逸室印存”,边用书法注释,亲手制作的此印谱册页古典高雅。他篆刻的画面,虚实开合,苍润拙朴,体现灵悟的才气和勤勉的功力,必然达到极高的境界。
赖少其的篆刻以格言、诗文、警句、人名为主,构图、篆法则根据内容而设计,吸收中西结构平衡、黄金分割等画法因素,结合传统的书法、篆刻技法。无论一面印还是多面印,方寸中巧妙布陈,构思既定,即走刀如笔,不加修饰,朱、白文线条奔放生动,配以健康、幽默、启示的篆文,作品自然成趣。所刻印章雄健清新,而又不失古朴浑厚,印风独具秦汉韵味和无穷的艺术魅力。
赖少其曾于1979年在《文汇报》撰文“王个簃和他的画”,1989年在黄宾虹研究论文集---《墨海烟云》评写“黄宾虹先生的为人和作画”,1993年又在《书法之友》发表“论邓石如”。此外,还有 “‘套版简帖’引子”、“徐孝穆的竹刻艺术”等多篇文章,不仅是评论艺术大师们的杰出成就,而且对篆刻书法也作了概况论述。他独具慧眼,认为观察“百家”,取百家之长,丰富自己,才能有所继承和创新。
唐云
少其先生的字,远承黉宝子,黉龙颜,近法扬州八家里的金冬心,方笔如削拨苍稳的感觉,联在一起,则有浓厚的简札和石刻的味道,金石韵味十足。 所谓“文如其人”、“画如其人”,凡同少其先生有过交往的人都说,他的为人正如他的诗、书、画一样:天真、耿直、豪放。他对现实从不隐瞒自己的观点;对朋友肝胆相照,急公好义。特别是经历了十年浩劫,许多画家都深有体会地说:“疾风如劲草,老赖是个品格高尚的人!”他不喝酒,也不抽烟,平生嗜好的是:诗书画。每逢谈到最高兴的问题,总是滔滔不绝,奔放的激情不可遏止。这,正是一个诗人兼画家特有的气质。
诗、书、画之外,他还以木刻和书法功底入印。所刻白文印章很有汉印味道。被人誉之为“四绝”。他还颇富收藏,精鉴别,金冬心的书画、陈老莲的花卉,垢道人的册页等等,都是他的家藏之珍。
为了追求理想,少其先生坚持学习,数十年如一日,从不懈怠。六十五岁高龄,依旧豪情满怀地背着画囊,驾缭绕白云,跨万丈深谷,继续勇攀黄山天梯。
师松龄
以“一木一石”的精神自勉,是赖少其先生用他近七十年的艺术生涯给我们后代留下的宝贵精神财富。以“一木一石”的精神励新志,继承中国版画传统和创新的精神并在创作中赋予时代性的特色,深化民族审美观的认识,必将会使“新徽派版画艺术”更进一步地发扬光大。
赵朴初
少其是中国现代版画艺术的开创者之一。三十年代初,鲁迅在上海积极倡导木刻艺术,他曾和李桦等人在广州创立了“现代版画研究会”,创作了大量的木刻作品,鲁迅先生曾将他们的作品介绍到日本发表,并誉之为“最有战斗力的青年木刻家”。当祖国民族处于危难之际,少其毅然携笔从戎,投身于民族解放战争之中。本世纪五、六十年代,他组织了一批中青年画家,为北京人民大会堂创作了一批讴歌祖国建设的大型套色版画,形成了具有鲜明的时代特色和艺术风格的“新徽派”。
谢稚柳
书法家、画家、版画家赖少其,几十年来,一直是忙里偷闲地度着他的艺术生涯。他数十年如一日,坚守他的信仰与爱好。数十年来“锲而不舍”,他的艺术成就正是“求则得之”的。
赖少其的版画,在技巧、风格上显示了它的独特性。他曾经刻过如六尺那样大的版画,这令人感到惊奇,单是这样大,从版画史来说,是前所未有的。有幅版画写的是“淮北变江南”,包含着富有意义的风景画,它强烈地接近着中国绘画的铺陈结体,而在色调方面也结合了中国绘画的着色法与色彩的运用,可以说是结合中国绘画的形式,开创了版画史上前所未有的面目。因此,它给人的艺术感受,是富有现实意义而带有中国绘画气氛的别开生面的新颖风调。
周而复
早在三十年代,我就知道青年木刻家赖少其,他的作品为鲁迅所赏识,并且谆谆对他教导:在版画创作上怎么继承民族民间的优秀传统,运用人民喜闻乐见的画法,融合欧洲的新法,创作具有民族和地方特色的新版画,要他“多看和练习”。鲁迅对他寄予深切的希望。
上海解放,我第一次见到赖少其同志,给我的印象,是一位朴实敦厚的勤奋的版画艺术家,他热爱艺术,追求艺术。有一次,少其把他收藏的名画一幅幅打开给我看,有陈老莲、金冬心、程邃、郑板桥、黄宾虹、傅抱石、潘天寿……他一往情深地向我介绍他临的程邃山水册页,心情激动地指着画册上他所写的题字给我看:“恨晚生三百年,不能拜其为师也。”从这简单的题字里,可以看出他对这位明末清初新安画派著名画家和篆刻家垢道人的倾倒的心情。他如醉如痴地精心临摹了他所能找到的程邃山水真迹。我欣赏他的临摹画幅,如果事先不说明,的确“可以乱真”。他临摹唐寅《匡庐三峡图》,就花了三四个月之久的时间。我看到他的两幅版画作品,一是《淮海战歌》,一是《金色的秋天》,基本上运用中国绘画的铺陈结体,吸收了中国绘画传统的表现方法,那画面又充满了时代的气息,为版画开阔了新的途径。

我们要欣赏赖少其先生的画,首先就得弄清楚从倪云林到程邃、到黄宾虹这一条一肪相承的渊源关系。
我对文人画可能有些天生的偏爱,可是我所指的文人画决不是那些画于南窗下不食人间烟火味的骚人剩墨。我喜欢境界高远,气质华美、韵味深邃的充满诗情的作品。这样的山水画,为我们的心灵展开了另一个广阔的天地。山水画越带有理想主义,就越能透露东方艺术的灵魂。在现代中国山水画的画坛上,赖少其先生我以为是在追求这一点的。
邵宇
在长期的金戈铁马、炮火硝烟的战争生活中,炼就了赖少其一付战士铮铮铁骨;因而他的画作,充满了激荡的豪情,对祖国的土地山川,对生息勤奋、劳作其间的人民,是如此挚诚的热爱着,从他笔下的松涛、云雨、瀑泻中,听到了作者热烈呼跳的心声。
他在学习传统上,是很下一番功夫的。程邃的“干裂秋风,润含春雨”情趣,戴本孝的取法《枯淡》的苍劲的特色,都被他溶于一炉,创造了既纯厚稳健工缎,又洒脱奔放畅朗的绘画风格。
他的书法,行书学王羲之《兰亭》,隶书远承黉宝子、黉龙颜,近法杨州八怪金冬心,方笔如削,峭拔苍劲,具有浓厚的简扎与石刻韵味。登泰山后,榜书学北齐经石峪,由方转圆。
因为他早年从事木刻,所以他的治印也很独到,刻刀锲处,朴若汉印,劲如松柏,顽石可为叹服。
他也是诗人,特别是他的题画诗,意浓、情美、境深,诗中有画、蕴涵乐律与生机,我们观其新出版《自书诗》可知。
他把诗、书、画、印溶为一体,得心应手的尽情讴歌他所钟爱的祖国、人民和可爱的应爱的一切。
尽管如此,他对艺术创作的技艺,仍在执意探求;他以七十岁的高龄,依旧豪情满怀的背着画囊,驾缭绕白云,跨万丈深谷,继续与黄山为伍,而攀天梯如故。
