袁宝林(1939.7—)笔名袁林、袁名元，河北唐山人。擅长美术史论。1965年毕业于中央美术学院美术史系。曾执教于天津工艺美术设计院，1987年调中央美术学院历任副教授、教授，曾担任美术史系外国美术史教研室主任、系副主任。著有《美术概论》(主编之一)，获国家优秀教学成果奖，《跨越世纪—西方现代派艺术》(主编)、《比较美术教程》、《古典风油画》、《徐渭》。曾为《大百科全书》(美术卷)、《世界美术大系》(第16卷主编)、《中国美术史》(清代卷)等多项重点科研项目撰稿。曾先后参加若干国际学术研讨会，发表《潜变中的中国绘画》等论文及编著。

Yuan Baolin (1939.7 -) is a pseudonym of Yuan Lin and Yuan Mingyuan, born in Tangshan, Hebei Province. Good at art history. Graduated from the Department of art history, Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1965. In 1987, he was transferred to the Central Academy of fine arts as an associate professor and Professor, and served as the director of the teaching and Research Office of foreign art history and the deputy director of the Department of art history. He is the author of an introduction to fine arts (one of the chief editors) and won the national excellent teaching achievement award. He is the chief editor of trans century western modernist art, comparative art course, classical oil painting and Xu Wei. He has written for many key scientific research projects, such as Encyclopedia (Art Volume), world art series (Volume 16 editor in chief), history of Chinese Art (Qing Dynasty volume). He has participated in a number of international academic seminars, published papers and compilers such as "Chinese painting in potential changes".
