阎茂如，天津市人，1924年11月出生，曾任中共天津市委《支部生活》社美术编辑，现为天津美术家协会理事。自幼酷爱美术，自学成才。在艺术道路上其以博求深，以广为民。从艺七十余年来，有剪纸、泥塑、速写、漫画、连环画、国画等大量作品问世。
多年来笔耕不辍，用功国画创作，尤以画人物、鸡、猴著称。其技法亦工亦写，自成一格。作品显现：清而不枯，俊而不妖，雄而不鲁，浑而不浊，放而不肆，杂而不滥。作画讲究诗情画意，笔墨神形；雅俗共赏，耐人寻味。其作品在各种报刊发表高达千余件。天津人民美术出版社先后出版了《阎茂如画集》、《阎茂如作品集》、《阎茂如画选》、《阎茂如速写集》等书籍。并著有自传体小说《生活的聚光点》一书。
阎茂如老先生为人忠厚，德艺双馨。其作品深受人们的喜爱，并被广大爱好者收藏。有的作品被韩国、日本、加拿大、新加坡、美国、澳大利亚以及香港、台湾等国家和地区的友人收藏。
