艾庆芸，自幼酷爱书画，1963年毕业于北京外国语学院，做过翻译、军人、工人和国家干部，但书画艺术始终是他日续一日，年复一年的刻苦追求。书海中探理、写生中创新，终于以他独创的艺术风格走上了中国画坛。他在天津、北京、山东等地举办了个人画展。1989年以来，他五次赴新加坡办展讲学，并赴印尼的雅加达、马来西亚的槟城和法国的巴黎举办了大型个人书画展，引起当地的轰动。其"笑竹"艺术蜚声中外，得到了国内外同行的赞誉，并有"竹王"的美誉。艾先生早年偏爱水粉、油画，尤钟书法。改从中国画后又涉及人物、动物、山水、花鸟，尤善画竹。多年来他对传统墨竹技法进行深入研究，并在大量写生中吸取西画优点，创造了使竹拟人笑起来的新技法："五叶巴掌法"、"先叶后枝法"、"立体竿法"等，他的竹作充满时代气息，给大众以喜悦，故称"笑竹"。1996年12月中国唱片总公司为他出版发行了《艾庆芸笑竹技法》录像带，用此录象带在国内外不少书画院、博物馆义务教学，培养了大批青少年书画人才。其书风画德令人敬佩。他的学生中有五百多人次在国内外书画大赛中获奖。著作:《艾庆芸写竹》、《青少年书法练习》、《艾庆芸楷书》、《颜体楷书临摹》等
