76年天津美术学院大学毕业后留校任教，历任天津美院教师、研究所室主任，广告部主任，展览馆馆长，科研部门负责人，天津美院美术馆馆长等。系中国美术家协会会员、联合国国际美术家联合会天津市执行委员会主席、中国美术家交流协会副主席，国际工SQ9000A书画艺术家资格认证中心副主席。中国艺术研究院文研中心研究员，香港世界名人传记中心，世界华人远程学院美术专业终身教授，中华书画报社执行总编，王学仲艺术馆艺术研究院，日本爱华路多国际书画艺术函授学院客座教授，大庆铁人书画院名誉院长，天津山水画研究会秘书长，天津科普作家协会，美术专业委员会主任等。作品在国内外联展、个展几十次，获奖、发表、出版画集近百幅作品。获中国国际文艺家联合会等四单位联合颁发的“书画艺术金奖”。山水画精品被中南海芳菲苑，天津名家美术馆及海内外十几个国家和地区艺术单位收藏，其艺术业绩己入编“世界华人艺术家辞海”、“世界华人艺术家名人大辞典”等二十几部辞书。
擅长写意山水画，兼涉花鸟画等，艺术风格粗狂泼辣、浓涩厚重、高华苍劲、气势恢宏，用笔用墨不拘小节，水墨淋漓，对比强烈，其作品有情有景、颇耐玩味。作画往往不守法度，认为“画一幅好的作品绝不是仅仅用手就能完成的，最重要的是手、眼。脑、心、胆五个方面的有机配合”。
作品多次参加国内外各类美术作品展览共获奖，其中，1985年参加天津市计生委主办的书画展获一等奖，1992年参加天津高级科技工作者协会主办的科技艺术精品展获一级艺术精品奖，1996年参加人民美术出版社等单位在北京举办的全国首届扇子艺术大展获三等奖。1997年5月，应邀赴马来西亚、新加坡等国家及香港地区进行艺术交流、考察。同年11月，举办“津湘十人巡回画展”，受到专家的一致好评；中央电视台、天津电视台、长沙电视台等均报道了美展开幕的盛况，十余家报刊予以长篇报道并整版刊登美术作品。1999年9月，应邀随全国名家书画代表团赴台湾参加“海峡两岸书画展”，期间遇“921”大地震，全团十三人七次举办大型抗震救灾书画义卖活动，为台湾灾区捐款一盯余万新台币，受到有关部门表彰。经常应邀为专业团体或单位讲学。
