吴山，南京艺术学院教授，江苏省文史研究馆馆员，中国美术家协会会员，我国著名工艺美术史学家、纹样史学家。1929年3月出生于江苏省江阴县杨舍镇（现张家港市），1946年入苏州美术专科学校西画专业，1949年入南京大学艺术系本科三年级（原中央大学艺术系47级），从陈之佛教授主攻图案，1951年入东北鲁迅文艺学院攻读研究生，主修基础图案。1956年入江苏美术馆，负责江苏民间工艺陈列暨研究等。1960年入南京艺术学院，从事工艺美术教学暨研究。60余年来，注重深入各地工艺美术生产企业和民间调研暨收集资料，广交艺人朋友；注重历代工艺美术科技资料挖掘和研究；以出土和传世文物为研究依据，提出诸多新创见。著作等身，硕果累累，是当代中国工艺美术学术领域屈指可数、矢志不渝的老一辈学者之一。1992年，被中国科学技术协会—工艺美术学会推荐为中国科学院学部委员（院士）候选人，2005年获中国工艺美术学会“中国工艺美术终身成就奖”，2008年获中国美术家协会“卓有成就的美术史论家”荣誉称号。
