Sir Thomas Lawrence (April 13, 1769 - January 7, 1830) is the most famous portrait painter of the British Regency. Dean of the Royal College of Art. His works are elegant and the most popular portrait painter of his time. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art and became king's painter after Joshua Reynolds in 1792. Lawrence was elected to the Royal Academy of Art in 1794 and appointed president in 1820. He was knighted in 1815. Lawrence was also appointed by the Royal Family to paint Willington, the British Marshal who defeated Napoleon. These paintings are currently on display in Windsor Castle. Other works include Mrs. G. F. Stoton in Painting, Little Fingers and Mrs. Stern. His reputation declined in Victorian times, but now it is back.
