徐风（1900-1988），字乐山，号仁斋，江苏无锡人，祖籍常州。国立中央大学艺术系首届毕业生，系徐悲鸿先生高足，著名画家和美术教育家。“太湖画派”重要代表人物之一。
1912年得留日族叔徐少卿关怀，由私塾转入其创办的养中小学读书。1918年进入江苏省立第三师范学习，时与同学钱松喦等结为艺友，共研艺事。1927年以优异成绩考入国立中央大学艺术系，深得徐悲鸿老师及著名画家吕凤子、潘玉良、张书旂、汪采白等示范传艺、耳濡目染，得以兼采众长，日与同窗吴作人、吕斯百等相互切磋，而画艺大进。
抗战期间，徐风颠沛流离于湘、桂、赣、黔之间，数年间，作画两百余幅。1943年夏，徐风在贵阳举办个人画展，三日间观众达三万余人，盛况空前，轰动山城，被称为“极有希望之青年画家”。徐悲鸿老师大赞，题赠：“元气淋漓”。?一时，在西南地区影响广泛。1946年携眷东返，执教于江苏省立洛社师范。
徐风不仅对传统的中国绘画艺术，包括山水、花鸟、蔬果、人物、飞禽走兽、书法等诸方面研究颇深，而且对素描、水彩、油画以及艺用解剖、现代艺术潮流、画派等教学的研究尤有心得。临摹了唐、宋、元、明、清及近现代大家作品近千幅，并撰写了大量的艺术札记、文论跋语、教学笔记和课程讲稿。徐风数十年功力尽付绘画中。早期作品，格调雅正、气韵兼力、意境深远；晚年作品，信手神来，笔墨纵横，淋漓尽致。其名被载入《无锡名人辞典》、《中国当代艺术家名人录》、《亚洲现代名流》及《世界书画名家大典》中。
徐风是一位名副其实的二十世纪杰出书画家和美术教育家，徐风的书画艺术是被遗逸的“清音”。

以优异成绩考入南京国立第四中山大学（国立中央大学前身）。同年，校方有意并在全班同学一致推荐下，与叶季英、吕斯百三人先去沪上探望徐悲鸿先生，转达校方诚邀之意。同年秋，徐悲鸿先生毅然以振兴祖国艺术为己任，孑身赴南京国立中央大学任教。其时，著名画家吕凤子、潘玉良、张书旂、汪采白等诸名家云集。从此，耳提面命，学贯中西，得以兼采众长。日与同窗吴作人，吕斯百相互切磋，画艺大进。
1928年戊辰28岁
一天，和同学吕斯百、张安治、刘艺斯、赵尚卿等在中大草坪散步时，与徐悲鸿老师相遇。老师画兴勃发，嘱：“仁斋弟，我现在想画国画，你去拿纸。”当即陪同步入艺术系楼上，展纸磨墨，大家静静凝视着老师泼墨挥毫《水墨苍松图》，并曰：“这是我回国来宁学国画以来的首次尝试，并不足奇”，随后，遵嘱收执保存。
闲间，张书旂老师散步至徐悲鸿老师在中大的画室时，正遇徐悲鸿老师在创作巨幅油画《田横五百士》，正以徐风为模特作素描人物稿，息间，三人闲聊愉悦，张书旂老师欣然挥笔作《三雀图》，以示纪念。
与中大艺术系全班同学跟随徐悲鸿老师去离学校不远处的石婆婆巷写生水牛、马、鹅等，大家都画得栩栩如生。徐悲鸿老师提出“写生不能写死，写死不是写生”的教学观点。
习作油画、水彩画、中国画、素描等，得徐悲鸿、吕凤子老师赞赏，分別题赠“清音”、“能得体貌”。
1929年己巳29岁
习作油画《自写像》，得徐悲鸿老师赞赏，并嘱与其在南京省立第四师范学校举办的留法期间油画、水彩、人物写生作品展一同展出，视为荣耀。
遵徐悲鸿老师嘱，先后物色三位模特即邵桂生、毕老三和邓小妹为中大艺术系学生作课堂人体写生。
在教学中，徐悲鸿老师鼓励学生习用“双钩法”，以提高学生对客观事物精细微妙的观察能力和写生能力。因学习成绩优异，徐悲鸿老师签赠《西洋少女结毛线》木炭肖像照一张，以作奖励。
吕凤子老师率中大艺术系学生赴庐山写生回校后，一天，看到所作中国画《深冬图》，颇有似己之风格，深加赞赏，嗣后，把庐山所见山石伴随云雾间特有的“墨趣”，泼墨作《乱山如梦》相赠，并题曰：“为仁斋大棣写”。同年，题写“仁斋画册”。
1928~1930年
正值徐悲鸿老师艺术创作旺盛时期，教学之余，集中精力，创作了一生中多幅重大历史题材的作品。在老师创作《田横五百士》巨幅油画时，则执弟子之礼，陪伴于左右，代为看管画室，或兼做模特，供师描摹作仰视、俯视状，参与其中，共襄盛举。
1930年庚午30岁
结识著名画家乌叔养，经推荐，接任其江苏省立镇江民众教育馆艺术股主任一职。同年，任职于江苏省立灌云乡村师范学校（今运河高等师范学校前身）。创作水墨人物画《割草图》等。
钱松喦同学赠水墨精品四屏条。
1932年壬申32岁
执教于江苏省连云港海州渔村师范。同年底，得知徐悲鸿老师在南京傅厚岗6号家中休养，专程前往拜见，老师大悦，当众展纸磨墨，挥笔《骏马芳草图》相赠，并附曰：“仁斋弟由海州来访写此赠之”，以作永久纪念。
1936年丙子36岁
冬，与同学钱松喦相聚，悦见《山水雅居图》藏之完好，感慨万千，欣然又提笔重题曰：“此余十四年前旧作也，仁斋兄至今藏之可谓爱及其乌矣，出示展玩，恍见昔日聚首一堂情景，恍然久之，丙子冬日松喦重题”。
1934~1937年
相继执教于江苏无锡私立竞志女子中学、无锡县立初级中学，江苏省立洛社乡村师范。创作人物写生及水彩画稿一批。
1938年戊寅
抗战期间，颠沛流漓，避难西行，执教于湖南黔阳县立简易乡村师范。
时年因炭精笔紧缺，作书徐悲鸿老师求助，老师当即复信并遵其作书长沙桂花井十三号孙多慈校友处求得二支，以应急需。
1939年己卯39岁
执教于贵州安顺黔江中学。
1942年壬午42岁
结识著名画家、雕塑家袁晓岑，合作《雀梅图》，互赠画作，成为艺友。
1943年癸未43岁
春，徐悲鸿老师喜作《立马图》相赠，题曰：“乐山先生惠教”。师生之情，可见一斑。
7月，供职于贵州省政府教育厅，任社会教育督导员。
赴贵州黔南苗族地区写生，创作了一批素描人物、风景写生和水彩风景写生作品，其中一组“青苗少女”素描人物写生作品摄照邮呈徐悲鸿老师赐教，老师非常欣慰，称其“此作极佳”，甚至表示“我亦欲购之…”。
夏，集中国画、水彩画等两百余件作品，在贵阳举办个人画展，前三日观摹人数达三万余人，盛况空前，轰动山城。徐悲鸿老师大赞，题赠：“元气淋漓”，并附言：“仁斋弟近作山水轶出清人，笔墨之用，一本自然，喜而书此。”当时《中央日报》曾作连续报道：“徐氏致力艺术垂三十年之久，其功夫之深湛，技巧之熟练，绝非一朝一夕所可致。其构意及手法均达炉火纯青化境，最可贵者，徐氏绘画中西兼长，但中画绝不染西画色调，西画又无中画风格，各得原有之特色，不相混合，此实目前一般画家所难能者…”。
1944年甲申44岁
5月，与著名画家贺公朴、吕圣逸在贵阳举办三人联合画展，再次引起社会各界的广泛关注，轰动一时，当时，《贵阳日报》报道：“徐风之山水用笔苍劲，大气磅礴，曾获一般人赞为极有希望之青年画家，徐悲鸿氏甚为器重，此次展览作品均颇精彩。其所画之马已得徐悲鸿之神态…”。
6月，经著名画家乌叔养介绍，任职于交通部公路总局西南公路工务局。作中国画《寒林独步》等。
1945年乙丑45岁
在贵阳与黄淑仙女士结为伉俪，婚后育有女：明英、筑华、映华、春华，子：建华。
创作中国画《松壑挂瀑》、《溪山清晓》及作素描《工友的孙子》、《仲家族少妇赶场去》、《黔南风景》等人物、风景写生。雕塑《人物》一尊。
秋，与画友张聿光相聚，得赠花鸟画一帧，题曰：“仁斋同学鉴赏”。
1946年丙戌46岁
抗战胜利，携眷东返。
冬，得徐悲鸿老师邮赠《立马图》一帧。
1947年丁亥47岁
执教于江苏省立洛社乡村师范学校。创作中国画《独坐观枫图》、《松荫抱琴》等。
临徐悲鸿老师《立马图》，深得其形，得其意。
1948年戊子48岁
创作中国画《重喦探幽》、《岩壑流泉》、《竹》等。
1949年己丑49岁
创作中国画《春江晓渡》等。
30~40年代
遵徐悲鸿老师：“造物之变无尽，静观自得，其机理应之于手，便于天侔。徒知驰骋于往古诸家者，虽师法荆关，亦仰人鼻息也”的题词勉励，临摹了唐、宋、元、明、清、现各个时期、各种流派的不同绘画风格画作近千幅。自篆《万物为师》等印章数枚。
1950年庚寅50岁
总结教学心得，编写《西洋画》、《水彩画》、《人物描写初步》及《艺用解剖概要》等教学文稿。
1953年癸巳53岁
9月26日，徐悲鸿老师因突发脑溢血病逝，得知噩耗，悲痛万分，治印“誓为丹青终我身”以志。
1957年丁酉57岁
辽宁省文联副主席、鲁迅美术学院教授、著名画家乌叔养，多次盛赞:“你的中国画造诣极深，素描极有基础，我辈来日无多，今天有你这点功夫的，国内实在不多…”，并多次邀聘去鲁迅美术学院国画系任教，但因家庭生活所迫，未能成行。
1960年庚子60岁
江苏省国画院成立不久，同学钱松喦熟悉了解其为人与画艺，曾多次力荐为画院画师，惜因种种原因未能如愿。
当选无锡市第三届文艺工作者代表。
1961年辛丑61岁
创作《劲松图》，寓意发扬共产主义精神，与三年自然灾害作斗争。
1964年甲辰64岁
不用水墨线条轮廓勾勒，以中国传统绘画技巧中的没骨法，习作《鹅图》。同年创作中国画《漁家乐》、《梅园春色》、《鸬鹚小憩》、《青菜》等。
1966年丙午66岁
退休。静心研习绘画，以画会友，写生、创作。
50~60年代
以抒写炽热的时代生活为背景，以人物为主体，写生并创作中国画《罱河泥》、《洗石子》、《种秋菜》、《劳动归来》、《三月江南积肥忙》、《支援公社去积肥》、《除草》、《向日葵》及水彩画《去食堂的路上》、《萝卜》、《竹篮菜椒》和素描写生《雨伞胶鞋》、《田间劳动》、《水陆并进》、《农忙季节开夜工》等一批“笔墨当随时代”的精品佳作。
1970年庚戌70岁
由原无锡县洛社镇下放到无锡县羊尖公社红光大队西桥生产队务农。三间平房，在内西侧辟了一间约5平米作为画室，一张2m×1m左右画板占据了画室一半的地方，创作环境十分艰苦。

为苏州刺绣厂、常熟刺绣厂绘制出口刺绣样稿五佰余幅。
1973年癸丑73岁
以农村所见，写生并创作了一批中国画，如《梦萦秋水》、《向日葵》，水彩画《农家》、《芹菜胡萝卜》、《鸡小白菜》，素描《纤夫》、《咸黄鱼》、《林荫桥上》等。
1974年甲寅74岁
写生创作中国画《阳山新面貌》，以广宣传水蜜桃之乡的阳山人民，大面积科学种植特色水蜜桃，名利双赢。
1978年戊午78岁
5月，在南京杨建侯家中与蒋仁、孙文林同学相聚，切磋画艺。
受唐代韩滉《五牛图》启发而创作《五牛图》一帧，该图画面构图饱满，笔力苍劲，浓淡自然，水墨淋漓，虚实间显生气弥漫，所绘五牛或行或憩，悠闲自得，神态各异，为晚年代表作之一。
珍藏于常州老家的百余件早期中国画、水彩画、写生、临摹及大量教学文稿、艺术札记和徐悲鸿、吕凤子、张书旂、潘玉良、蒋兆和、吕斯百、钱松喦等老师、同学的部分赠画、题词、信札等不幸遭火灾，化为灰烬，这给人们了解并研究其早期绘画风格和艺术特点，造成了不可弥补的一大遗憾。
创作中国画《两大花开满山红》、《祖国河山春常在》、《迎朝晖》等。
1979年己未79岁
写生黄山松数帧并临《刘海粟黄山纪游》写生画稿一批，创作中国画《松鹰图》、《松鹤图》等。

为南京师范大学八十周年校庆创作中国画《源远流长》，并收录其出版的《八十年画集》中。
受中央美院院长、中国美术家协会主席吴作人同学的来信建议：回忆编写《徐悲鸿老师与我》一文，并于1987年7月发表在《宜兴文史资料》第十二期的纪念徐悲鸿专辑中。
游览南京及南京周边各名胜古迹，作写生稿近百幅。

1983年癸亥83岁
中央美院教授、中国著名美术技法理论家、学生文金扬及其夫人敬徳纯专程从北京前往洛社寓所拜访。同年，创作《深山话旧》，以释怀师生之情。
