沈定庵,1927年生,绍兴人。书画幼承庭训,他的书法作品被毛主席纪念堂、北京人民大会堂、中南海、故宫博物院等收藏,还出版《沈定庵书法作品选》《沈定庵书法集》等作品。沈定庵曾任中国书协二届理事、浙江书协首届副主席,现为兰亭书会会长,浙江文史研究馆官员、浙江书协顾问等。

沈定庵先生出身书香门弟,家学渊源深厚,父亲华山先生是大画家王一亭的入室弟子,曾在绍兴约集越中知名书画家,组织镜湖画社,自任社长。庶母诸氏,也擅丹青。沈定庵先生五六岁时,常在父亲的画室中翻阅画册,信手涂鸦。一日,邑中著名书画家徐生翁到沈定庵家来,见到他习的字,大加赞许,嘱父加以诱导。以后,他开始临摹伊秉绶的《默庵集锦》,每每心摹手追,几至废寝忘食。一次上街,偶然瞥见一家店铺里挂着伊秉绶的手迹,顿时如醉如痴,双腿入定一般,再也挪不动,竟大胆开口求借。店主摇头说:“不能借。但你要喜欢,可以到这里来临写。”他果然回家连夜磨墨盈瓯,备好纸笔,第二天一早就如约去临摹。天赋秉性加上勤奋好学,使他进步很快。

画家吴冠中曾打过这样一个比喻,艺术犹如一间大房子,只有将所有的门窗都打开,才能八面来风,进出自如。沈定庵会画能写,又善于结交鸿儒,日积月累,旁类艺术就如一扇扇打开的门窗,在他心中通透无比。
古越书坛,历来才技精湛者甚多,书法泰斗沈定庵便是其中之一。沈老出身于书香门第,学书遍临汉魏诸碑,擅多种书体,尤其以超凡脱俗的隶书见长。尽管名声响彻国内,但年岁已高的沈定庵并没停止脚步,依旧为书法事业奋斗着。为了绍兴的书法事业,沈老前后花费7年多时间,搜集绍兴近现代书法名家资料、作品,编成《近百年绍兴书画、篆刻名家小传》。
书法跟做人一样,一定要端端正正
走进沈老家,书香扑面而来。与沈老交谈是种享受,他言语间谈笑风生,眉宇间神清气爽。沈老虽师承伊秉绶、徐生翁,在书法上却独辟蹊径,自成一家。沈老的书法作品,不管是斗方还是条幅,长卷还是横披,都融朴茂、谨严、古拙、雅致于一体,他的书法体势雄强而又低回婉转,笔力遒劲而又意态丰盈,既蕴含了“碑学”的高度,又展现了“帖学”的风神。
沈定庵6岁那年,父亲华山先生描摹了一幅西藏班禅的画,由年幼的沈定庵题了字,悬挂在他的镜湖画社里。一天,著名书画家徐生翁造访镜湖画社,寒暄几句之后,徐老先生的目光落在了这幅画的题字上,当他得知是沈定庵所写,便叮嘱华山先生:“这个题字别看东倒西歪的,但有一定的风格,应该好好培养。”
时隔70多年,沈老把小时候的这件事写进了关于徐生翁的小传。从那年起,他与书法结下了不解之缘。14岁那年,沈定庵曾追随父亲去广东湛江,回绍兴后,于上世纪50年代举办首次个人书画展,那年他30多岁。之后,沈定庵成功举办过很多个人书法展。尽管如此,但沈定庵始终念念不忘第二故乡湛江。上世纪80年代中期,沈老终于有机会再赴湛江,展出自己的书法作品,这两地办的几次展览是沈老印象最为深刻的。
书法大家博爱的气度中始终有着对故乡的“归属感”。这是年事已高的沈老依然潜心创作《近百年绍兴书画、篆刻名家小传》的原因之一。
对于学习书法,沈老有着自己精到的见解:“书法就是要有恒心,学一个帖,写一个碑,开始的时候一定要像它。时间长了领会了,等神似后,就要主动创新。有一次我写到一个‘君子’的‘君’’,下面有个‘口’字,我这个‘口’写得不方不正,父亲看到后严厉地批评我。从这个细小的事情看,书法跟做人一样,一定要端端正正。”自此以后,沈定庵凡下笔前,必先想一想父亲的教诲,别说是一个“口”字,有时候一撇一捺,他也要看个十遍八遍,斜了没有?歪了没有?他都要弄清楚才罢休。
老书法家当起了“业余作家”
除了在书法上的造诣,沈老在绘画上也表现了过人的天赋。从练书法起,他的绘画也就一起开练了。早在1958年,沈定庵的书法已家喻户晓。那个年代跟现在不一样,书法绘画更多的是爱好,不能用来谋生的。所以许多亲朋好友找到沈定庵,让他给他们写个条幅、画幅画什么的,沈定庵这个人比较热情,从来不拒绝。但后来发现画一幅作品要花很长时间,而他的工作又很忙,所以他就放弃了绘画。也有人对他放弃绘画表示可惜,可沈定庵却觉得,书法到今天有所建树,那还得“感谢”当年的“放弃”。
1979年,退休后的沈定庵已全身心地投入到书法上。2000年,已经在古越书坛上赫赫有名的沈老,开始把目光投向绍兴老一辈卓有成就的书画篆刻家,他要把自己小时侯的亲身经历、父亲与这些书画家的交往点滴汇集起来,他要为他们写一本书。沈老一改以往小传文体较枯燥的说明介绍性体裁,他改用散文、随笔的形式,写出《近百年绍兴书画、篆刻名家小传》。在沈老笔下,他将许多著名的书画篆刻家如徐生翁、袁梦白、赵雪侯、范守白、李鸿梁、周茂斋等等鲜活的一面栩栩如生地呈现给读者。他说,这本传记,对于后人研究绍兴书画家们的创作艺术,有一定的作用。
