张松鹤，生于1912年10月10日，广东东莞人。1930年考入广州美术专科学院。1936年入国民第二军第四师任中尉艺术科员，绘编抗日宣传画报。1938年加入中国共产党及东江抗日纵队，历任抗日民主区长、联区主任，东江南岸第三战线副指挥，华北《行军快报》、《行军画报》主编。建国后，曾先后在北京市人民美术工作室、北京市美术公司、北京画院从事雕塑创作。是新中国雕塑事业的奠基人之一。第五、六、七届全国政协委员。自上世纪60年代起，被授予国家突出贡献专家，并一直享有国务院专家特殊津贴。2005年7月28日，因病在北京去世，享年93岁。
张松鹤是我国著名雕塑艺术家。幼年因家贫，十六、七岁才念完小学。1930年春，到广州同洲美术馆学画炭像，兼上中学夜校补习文化。同年秋考入广州美术专科学校西洋画系。由于酷爱雕塑艺术，利用课余时间钻研雕塑。1934年夏毕业后，回清溪鹿鸣学校任教，后又在家乡创办柏朗学校。
1936年经堂兄介绍加入宣传抗日的国民革命军第12集团军154师，任中尉科员，负责编绘抗日宣传漫画。1937年夏赴淞沪抗战战区并参加“南京保卫战”。撤退广东后，由于不满军中的腐败及丢弃伤兵等行为，他于1937年12月离开国民党军队回乡，经好友介绍，回鹿鸣学校任代课教师，并积极参加抗日救亡活动。1938年6月，加入中国共产党。日军于同年10月在广东大亚湾登陆，他在清溪组织“东莞县民众抗日自卫团卅二大队”并当选为大队长。11月，日军占领莞城，回师扫荡铁路沿线。12月中，他和林锦华、黄高阳带领自卫大队与石马、约场自卫大队汇合，到白花洞嶂阁集中，12月中旬，部队整编为“惠东宝边区人民抗日游击队”第二大队，他任副大队长。1938年底，任政工队组长，受派遣到和师部失去联系的国民党张瑞贵部913团做政治工作，争取他们共同抗日。后来，又派回鹿鸣学校任教师，从事党的地下工作。1939年底，参加清圹区委，任宣传委员。
1940年至1941年，在龙岗坪岗中学、石龙中学（当时迁来清溪）、清溪鹿鸣学校同时兼任三间学校教师，开展抗日救亡工作。当时，石龙学校长黎彦林很反动，强迫教师填表加入国民党，先后两次他都把申请表撕了。区委书记见他面目渐渐暴露，就把他调回部队去了，任司令部政工队副队长。1942年冬，任惠阳大队油印室主任，印发出歌和宣传漫画。1944年初回清溪建立抗日民主政府，把各乡长。后来石马、凤岗、圹坜、雁田、约场地先后成立政府，把各乡统一成立新三区，他当选为区为。1945年8月底，日本投降后，国民党加紧清乡、区乡抗日政府又重新打游击。四区（东江河区）澈到三区，成立联区，他任联区长。
1946年6月30日，随东纵部队北撤山东，在华东党校学习一年后，在两广纵队负责出版工作，绘编《行军画报》、《行军快报》和小型画册。1948年秋转业任华北大学文艺部美术研究员。曾参加太原前线和解放天津入城美工队。1949年春在北平华北大学任教，后调北京人民美术工作室专事雕塑创作。1951年，先后兼任华北军区石家庄烈士陵园雕塑委员会主任、北京师范大学美工教授、中国雕塑工厂顾问、人民英雄纪念碑塑组和中国美协雕塑组副组长、四川古代雕塑艺术考察团团长。1954年在北京市人代会上被评为北京市优秀艺术工作者，受名誉和物质奖。1958年调任北京市美术公司创作室副主任，兼北京艺术学院教授、雕塑教研组组长。1966年冬至1967年夏，借调清华大学、北京师范大学、邮电学院、山东师范学院、湖南大学等院校塑造巨型毛主席像。1972年冬调北京中国画院从事专业创作。1977年参加毛主席纪念堂的毛主席汉白玉座像雕塑工作，被评为先进工作者。1978年至1985年，先后被选为全国政协第五届、第六届委员会委员。1979年冬参加中国雕塑家考察团，出国考察意大利和法国雕塑艺术。历任北京中国画院创作干部、中国美协理事、北京市文联理事、北京雕塑工厂顾问。
2005年7月28日于广东家中病逝。

张松鹤老先生故居对面的一个院落——柏朗街30号曾经是一所小学，因为小学搬迁，这块地便空了出来。张松鹤曾经呼吁归乡华侨来购买，为当地教育筹款，但一直无人看中这块地。1986年，张松鹤老先生自己出钱买下，将其改建为自己的工作室。一进入这个院子便感到丝丝凉意，院子里面郁郁葱葱满眼的绿色。张松鹤的孙子张欣然告诉记者，张松鹤老先生生前最爱红棉，院里院外都种了不少红棉树。因为红棉树又叫“英雄树”，他将自己对于战斗英雄们的敬仰、怀念之情寄托在了这一棵棵挺拔的树上。他最喜欢的一首诗中写道——“英雄祖国英雄树，唯慕英雄画英雄”。
院子里一间简陋的房子就是张松鹤生前的工作室，里面布置得十分简单，柜子上、桌面上摆满了张松鹤生前的作品和设计草稿。他就是在这间工作室中与世长辞的，在他生命的最后一刻，他都不曾离开他热爱的雕塑事业。工作室的墙上挂着张老晚年留下的为数不多的画，其中有一幅画的就是红棉树，他笔下的红棉红得热烈，英气逼人。

张松鹤从事雕塑研究创作多年，主要作品有人民英雄纪念碑的浮雕《抗日游击战》、鲁迅著作封面浮雕《鲁迅像》、《鲁迅半身石雕像》、《鲁迅胸像》、石家庄烈士陵园铜像《战斗》和《埋雷》、《列宁胸像》、《毛主席浮雕像》等。绘画有水粉画《东方红》。写有《丰富多彩的四川古代石刻艺术》、《怎样做雕塑》、《对现代雕塑艺术观感》、《古希腊、罗马的雕塑艺术》等文章，在报刊发表。近年来为深圳革命烈士碑设计，负责抗日和解放战争两个时期的浮雕创作。并和爱人陈淑光、广州美术学院雕塑家潘鹤、李汉仪、梁明诚等人共同设计及建造东江人民革命烈士碑，分工创作出从鸦片战争至解放战争六个时期的石刻园雕和铸铜浮雕共12件。有突出成绩，得到中央领导杨成武、王震等的好评。北京人民英雄纪念碑的浮雕，被评为建国以来的优秀作品，受追加奖。
张松鹤除从事美术雕塑工作外，还擅写诗词和书法。为中国诗词学会和书画家协会会员。
