北京人。1950年从事连环画创作。1959年毕业于中央美术学院雕塑系。同年分配到河南工作。从事教育及博物馆工作，做过群众艺术和民间美术的考察和研究。1984年做过几年城市雕塑。1993年退休，定居北京。现为一级美术师、中国美术家协会会员、中国雕塑学会理事。国家有突出贡献专家。“在家学传统，出门画写生”是我的自学之路，“画到山中只有我，艺到深处自儒雅”是我的信念。
