1939年2月生于海南琼海市。1951年至1957年，在定安琼山完成中学教育。1957年考取武汉大学法律系，读了一年。1958年考取广州美术学院版画系，1962年毕业。1962-1970年在佛山民间艺术研究社从事木版画、剪纸创作与研究。1970年至1978年在省市文化部门做宣传展览普及工作，并涉猎了中国画、油画、连环画、雕塑、陶瓷等。1978年调入广东画院。
长兼创作室副主任。1988年被任命为广东画院副院长。1988年评为一级美术师。1992年获国务院特殊津贴。2000年从领导岗位退下来。2002年被聘为广东画院艺术顾问。现为中国美协理事、广东画院副院长，一级美术师。油画《耕海》(与余国宏合作)、中国画《旧中国一桩真事实》获第六届全国美展铜奖，《石破天惊》获第六届全国美展优秀奖并为中国美术馆收藏。先后在岭南美术出版社、杨柳青出版社、海南人民出版社和三环出版社出版过五个专门画集。主要作品还有：《一桩往事》、《飘走的歌》和《印女汲水图》等。
Born in February 1939 in Qionghai, Hainan. From 1951 to 1957, he completed secondary education in Qiongshan, Dingan. He was admitted to the Law Department of Wuhan University in 1957 and studied for one year. He was admitted to the Printing Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1958 and graduated in 1962. From 1962 to 1970, he was engaged in Woodcut and paper-cut creation and research in Foshan Folk Art Research Society. From 1970 to 1978, he did propaganda and Exhibition popularization work in provincial and municipal cultural departments, and involved in Chinese painting, oil painting, comic strips, sculpture, ceramics and so on. He was transferred to Guangdong Painting Academy in 1978.
In 1986, he was elected to the fourth National Association of Fine Arts, and in 1987, he was appointed Deputy Secretary-General and Deputy Director of Creation Room of Guangdong Painting Academy. He was appointed Vice President of Guangdong Painting Academy in 1988. In 1988, he was awarded first-class artist. In 1992, he received special allowance from the State Council. He retired from his leading position in 2000. In 2002, he was employed as an art consultant of Guangdong Academy of Painting. Now he is the director of China Association of Fine Arts, vice president of Guangdong Academy of Painting, and a first-class artist. Oil painting "Tilling the Sea" (in cooperation with Yu Guohong), Chinese painting "A True Fact of Old China" won the bronze prize of the 6th National Art Exhibition, and "Stone Breaking the Sky" won the excellent prize of the 6th National Art Exhibition and was collected by the Chinese Art Museum. Five special collections of paintings have been published successively in Lingnan Fine Arts Publishing House, Yangliuqing Publishing House, Hainan People's Publishing House and Sanhuan Publishing House. The main works include: A Past History, Gone Song and Ink Woman Drawing Picture, etc.
