国家一级美术师、陕西省美术家协会理事、驻会专业画家、陕西省文化厅对外文化交流协会理事。 1959年拜石鲁为师，1974年陪同石鲁被批判参加在西安碑林举办的“黑画展览”，1979年考入中央美术学院高研班，进入李苦禅教授工作室。1980年由国家出版机构—北京人民美术出版

出版《张杲画选》,全国发行。1990年由香港英属艾利博有限公司出版《张杲画选》第二集。1995年应邀出访英国皇室学院---兰卡斯特大学为纪念欧洲二战胜利五十周举办的“张杲与中国日”文化活动以及讲学与画展、并获毛卡姆图书馆收藏证书、作为一门严肃艺术的中国画引起英国BBC的两次专访与报道。997年出访欧美八国讲学,在美国获院士奖项。1998年成功引进纽约“全美粉画第25届年展”并率团回访美国举办多次美术交流活动,获纽约全美粉画协会荣誉证书,1998年十月又应英国皇家美术联合总会暨

皇家水彩协会之邀第三次赴英国举办画展,出版画册等。2002年出版第三本大型画册《张杲画集》在西安发行。 2011年“长安精神——陕西当代中国画名家作品展”在北京、广州、上海三地的巡展。在漫长而艰辛的艺术生涯中，立足于中国画传统，广泛而深入地取鉴中外文化艺术资源，积极探寻中国画的笔墨精神与表现潜能，以充沛的创作激情和卓越的艺术成就，引领着陕西美术的方向和潮流，为中国美术事业的繁荣发展做出了巨大的贡献。

巡展在各地引起了巨大反响。无疑是当代陕西美术的巅峰呈现，对于美术理论界深入解析“长安画派”之后陕西美术的发展历程，把握当代陕西美术新格局，具有重要的认识意义和学术价值。

Published "Selected Paintings of Zhang Xiao", published nationwide. In 1990, the second volume of Selected Paintings of Zhang Xiao was published by Hong Kong British Aliber Co., Ltd. In 1995, he was invited to visit the Royal College of England, Lancaster University, to commemorate the fiftieth week of the victory of the Second World War in Europe. The cultural activities of "Zhang Xiao and China Day" and lectures and exhibitions were held. He was also awarded the collection certificate of Maugham Library. As a serious art, Chinese painting attracted two interviews and reports from the British BBC. In 1997, he visited eight European and American countries to lecture, and won the Academician Award in the United States. In 1998, he successfully introduced New York's "25th National Pink Painting Annual Exhibition" and led a delegation to visit the United States to hold many art exchange activities. He was awarded the honorary certificate of the New York National Pink Painting Association. In October 1998, he was awarded the Royal Federation of Fine Arts and the Royal Federation of Fine Arts of the United Kingdom.

Invited by the Royal Watercolor Association, he went to Britain for the third time to hold exhibitions and publish albums of paintings. In 2002, the third large-scale picture album Zhang Xiao Painting Collection was published in Xi'an. In 2011, "Chang'an Spirit - Contemporary Chinese Painting Exhibition of Shaanxi Province" toured in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. In the long and arduous artistic career, based on the tradition of Chinese painting, we should learn from Chinese and foreign cultural and artistic resources extensively and thoroughly, actively explore the spirit and expressive potential of Chinese painting brush and ink, and lead the direction and trend of Shaanxi art with abundant creative passion and outstanding artistic achievements, so as to flourish the cause of Chinese art. The exhibition has made great contributions.

The tour has aroused tremendous repercussions everywhere. Undoubtedly, it is the peak presentation of contemporary Shaanxi art. It has important cognitive significance and academic value for art theorists to deeply analyze the development process of Shaanxi art after "Chang'an Painting School" and grasp the new pattern of contemporary Shaanxi art.
