杨彦，号本琦，字养一。工书，善画，尤喜作长卷巨制，山水、人物、花卉、翎毛、走兽、清贡、蔬果
、神仙佛像、海底、太空，无不上粉本。偶搞现代观念也是有感而发。海内外举办个展十一次。出版个人书画
集十二种，获奖十二项，参展入典拍卖不计。
1958年2月出生。1964年在舅舅马福伟的启蒙下临摹《芥子园画谱》。1978年拜华拓先生为师。
1985年经杨静仁介绍，携画拜访黄胄。
1987年8月于北戴河拜师李可染门下。并同期完成《大宁河览胜图》。
1989年作品参加「金陵八人绘画精品展」于台湾展出。1990年《雨霁行舟图》及传略编入《中国当代国画辞典》。
《唐人诗意图》选入《中国现代名家名作选》，《黄山图》收入日本出版的《中国当代国画巨匠新锐作品集》。
1990年《中国日报》介绍《生命的律动——海底系列》长卷。
接受中央人民广播电台英语部采访，介绍杨彦海底系列作品。

为十一届亚运会捐画《峡江行》。
1991年《海底系列》作品参加“1991年中国北京扇型绘画邀请大展”。
应邀参加“南方四人联展”。于中国画研究院展出，孙美兰作序言。
《生命的律动——海底系列作品十一号》被中国画研究院收藏。
1992年中央人民广播电台“华夏经纬”采访并专题介绍杨彦新作《生命的律动——海底系列》长卷。
1993年《杨彦画集》在国内出版发行。
获世界华人艺术家荣誉称号，编入《世界华人艺术家博览大典》。10月于日本长冈举办“墨的
鬼才——杨彦中国画展”。在50多件作品中除7幅自藏品外其余被日本友人购藏。
参加「北京五人画展」作品《对弈图》被德国伊尔克·席勒收藏。

1995年应邀为北京邮票公司设计《太湖风光》系列邮品。
首日封三枚、邮折一枚、邮卡两枚。
台湾舞雩艺术中心举办《杨彦中国画展》。
1996年《香港商报》人物定镜专版介绍杨彦作品《大财神》应邀参加新春首都百人文艺家、书画家联谊会。
10月赴苏州东山近水山庄于恩师亚明度过近半年的难忘时光，被聘为北京星座文化艺术研究中心东方艺术部研究员。
1997年应台湾沈春池文教基金邀请、宇庆文教基金会、舞雩艺术中心主办、杨彦赴台南主讲《中国山水画六大家比较研究》。
1998年台南收藏家和杨彦水墨画爱好者张氏兄弟等发起成立“杨彦水墨艺术研究会”（后改为“杨彦画友会”）。
年底应邀再度访台期间于台北淡江大学中正演讲厅演讲《本世纪中国杰出画家作品比较与研究》。
加入中国宗教学会，北京市美术家协会。
1999年《台声》杂志以《一场艺术飨宴》为题。介绍大陆画家杨彦在台湾淡江大学讲课及发表
近作《台湾风光系列——阿里山》。
7月应烟台市政协、烟台市书画院、烟台市美协邀请赴烟台举办个人画展并学术演讲和座谈会。
2000年元月，应邀参加“二十一世纪国著名画家美国大展”赴美国洛杉矶出席开幕式。并荣获美国五个城市市政府颁发的六个奖状和荣誉证书。被誉为对美国社会与文化有突出贡献的文化使者。期间赴大峡谷写生。
2002年人民美术出版总社，出版发行《中国当代美术家杨彦》大型画集。
著作有《李可染山水画技法解析》、《陆俨少山水画技法解析》、《张大千山水画技法解析
