吴光宇画作

又名吴显曾，原籍浙江绍兴，生于北京。幼年在家塾读书，1924年毕业于北京汇文中学。始随兄长吴镜汀学画山水，1926年入中国画学研究会，经金城指点，师从徐燕孙，专攻人物，后任助教。三、四十年代曾任北平国立艺术专科学校讲师，并执教于京华美术学校。解放后，1951年入北京中国画研究会，任理事，1958年任北京中国画院画师，为中国美术家协会会员。六十年代初曾在河北美术学院、鲁迅美术学院和民族学院授课。
擅长工笔人物画。兴趣广泛，爱好京剧和民间戏曲。艺术上慕唐宋画风，又受民间壁画及民间戏曲艺术影响。长于历史人物画。1962年曾赴云南西双版纳写生，绘人物肖像和云南风光多幅。《荀灌娘突围救父》藏于中国历史博物馆；其他传世作品有《画龙点睛》、《吹箫引凤》等。所绘人物画编为《荣宝斋画谱》之29。吴光宇是北京传统派人物仕女画的突出代表之一。
他虽然师承徐燕孙，但取材较集中于脍炙人口的历史人物、文学形象、民神和婴戏，轻雅意，重俗赏；造型每善于取法戏曲人物的身姿动态，讲提炼，略夸张；师古除卷轴画之外，亦多借鉴民间壁画，富气势，有力量；衣纹在吴道子一派的基础上，大胆吸收了南宋马夏和明代浙派的纵肆笔法，既矫健，又流畅；设色亦强化了补色对比和白粉泥金的作用，亦绚丽，亦明快；绘景则在其兄的影响下变工为写，颇觉潇洒随意，尤善在生纸作笔势迭宕、工中带写的重彩人物，创造了更为雄丽洒脱也更为刚健婀娜的个人风格。代表作有《荀灌娘救父》、《淝水之战》、《宝琴立雪》等。他亦善连环画，作品有《张羽煮海》等，晚年曾去西双版纳，所作山水小品亦有一定生活气息
