于曙光，1944年4月生于河北磁县，祖籍四川乐至县。别名老果生，四川乐至县人。擅长中国画、书法。曾在企业工会、部队宣传部门，中国法制报社、中国书法杂志社担任美术工作。历任中国书法家协会编辑部副主任、副编审、办公室主任，现为中国书法家协会研究部主任（副编审）、中国书法家协会理事、中国美术家协会会员、中华诗词学会会员、中国文联书画艺术中心副秘书长、北京古琴研究会副秘书长、中国书法家协会书法培训中心教授、中国书画印研究院、中国剑光书画院专家委员及中国书画名家网艺委会艺术顾问、北京鲁博书画院院长等。
于曙光1962年高中毕业后，当过工人，作过美工和演出人员，在实际工作中培养了积累了多方面的文艺才干，同时也养成了淳朴、务实的性格。
1985年进入书法界的最高机关——中国书法家协会。后来当过编辑、办公室主任、研究部主任。如果他想走捷径，靠近水楼台，应该是比较容易的，但他却认为求速成、走捷径、追流行虽然取得些实惠，但终难成大器，那是一种“新书奴”，而失去了自我。因此，他自称是“苦学派”。
他十分重视传统，以学传统经典为立足之本。他对古代优秀碑帖几乎无所不临，“为我所用”自以为“不让古人”。他对宋四家和王羲之更是情有独钟。他研究“兰亭”成果斐然，他编著的《天下第一行书》在书法界有着相当影响。他对古代经典书法花大力气打进去，临帖要细致入微，兼求形神，力求在背临的基础上与个人的爱好相结合，走创新之路。要始终贯穿着追求力感之美，点画精到之美，并追求整体效果和气息韵律之美。在书法创作中，他兼擅诸体，但重点是行书和行草书。其篆书笔画通婉不板刻，其楷书多以写经和简牍为基础，又吸收了苏轼、倪瓒等多家笔法，增加了耐看性。其行草书吸收了唐宋以来许多大家的风格，取法乎上，追求其神。其行草书作品往往气势贯通，笔力劲健，恣肆流畅，时有枯涩干渴之笔，显出老辣苍劲迹象。曙光是书家兼画家，故其作书往往是墨色变化十分丰富。这也是很难得的艺术效果。
擅长中国画，兼能山水、人物、花鸟，长于小写意，风格“清劲”。主攻书法，兼能真、草、隶、篆，尤擅行书、行草书，博取诸家、借鉴诸艺、其书风“骨胜，富韵”。有著作《天下第一行书》行于世数万册，在书界有相当影响。书法作品曾多次参加国内外大展，如《全国第二届中青展》、《全国第四届书法展》、《中国二十世纪书法大展》、《中国书法千年展》等。书法作品曾赴日本、美国等国展出。名字多为书画、篆刻词典，以及《世界名人录》等收录。
于曙光自幼喜爱中国书画、篆刻，书能真、草、隶、篆，尤擅行书和行草，画长人物、山水、花鸟。他的书法博取诸家，书风人称“骨胜富韵”。其书法作品曾多次参加国内和日本、新加坡、美国等地重要展事。
于曙光认为，书法是艺术中最独特，最有中国特色的艺术。别的艺术门类均可借鉴西方，搞“中西结合”，但书法艺术却不同，它是最贴近汉语言文字的“派生物”。在于曙光看来，书法艺术的根本首先是传承，不需要刻意“创新”。在创作观念上，他对历代书家的名言名句十分留心，比如“欲书先散怀抱”、“无意于佳乃佳”、“胸有成竹”、“意在笔先”等，他将这些宝贵经验融入自己的创作。
1995年在首届书圣杯书画大赛中获“国际银奖”。
1998年在中国美术馆举办了《于曙光书法展》并出版《于曙光书画》。
2003年度书法论文《学习经典、创造经典》获中国文联“第三届文艺评论奖”三等奖。
此后曾被中央电视台、北京电视台、武汉电视台、中国教育电视台、香港电视台等媒体作出专题或专访。
