汪刃锋，原名汪亦伦，笔名刃锋，别署仞峰。男，汉族，安徽全椒人，1918年9月生。幼随外祖父鲁云逵习诗文书画，1938年参加抗日救亡宣传工作，从事木刻。1939年在重庆陶行知创办的育才学校任绘画教师，1942年在重庆参加组建中国木刻研究会，任中国木刻研究会重庆区理事，1943及1945年分别在成都、重庆举办个人画展，1946年在上海任中国木刻协会常务理事兼展览部长，1948年去台湾写生，并在台北市举办“刃锋写生画展”，1949年3月由香港经武汉回中原大学任教，同年任解放军第四野战军特派记者。1951年调北京市文联创作部从事专业创作，曾任《北京文艺》编委。现为中国美术家协会会员，中国版画家协会副秘书长，北京画院专业画家。创作以木刻为主，兼能国画。早期作品多表现劳动人民的疾苦，提示社会矛盾，反映人民的愿望和要求。以后的作品多反映生产建设的成就和祖国山河的风貌。1987年应联邦德国图宾根大学之邀去该校讲学，并举办画展。有的作品为莫斯科东方博物馆，日本神奈川现代博物馆，巴黎两次世界大战博物馆收藏。汪刃锋是中国国早期木刻运动的创作者和推动者，是中国新兴木刻运动中卓有影响的著名木刻家。2010年12月18日上午10点10分在京病逝，享年92岁。
1948年，上海金屋书店出版了汪刃锋的“连环叙事木刻集”《南中国的画像》，共收录了25幅作品。这是他继重庆时期的连环系列作品《还乡梦》、《受降城下》、《人民的受难》之后的又一部重要的作品。在这部史诗般的作品中，汪刃锋用像叙事诗或者是长篇小说的方式，叙述了离开土地的人们寄寓都市的艰苦曲折，表现了他们为了生存的挣扎。汪刃锋以自己的实践说明：“新艺术不仅是旧社会的解剖，更应该是人类理想的指导和新世纪的赞扬。”
建国后，汪刃锋作品表现人民和平生活的喜悦与社会建设的进程，作品《对歌路上》、《建设川江航道》等都洋溢着新时代的热情。八十年代末期勤于国画创作，无论山水、画鸟、书法均取得很好名声，成就斐然。可以说，汪刃锋以自己的方式在一个时代中作出了艺术的努力——他以自己的话语，为时代的使命呐喊；他以自己的存在，为知识分子挺立了时代的脊梁。
汪刃锋1938年从事木刻创作，1943年任中国木刻研究会理事。汪刃锋从事版画创作之初正是抗日战争全面爆发之时，他用木刻刀做武器，振奋民族精神。抗战胜利后到解放前，他的作品直面社会现实，通过对民众在炼狱中绝望挣扎的生存状态的刻画，揭示特定历史时期民族苦难的深刻内涵。
