（1895年—1984年）原名王樾，字森然，号杏岩，曾用哑公、子燕、杏楠、黑衣、菊子、涤楼、养吾等70个笔名。定州市东旺村人。是我国著名的教育家、革命思想家、社会活动家、史学家、美术家，在国内外享有很高的声誉。王森然是我国知识分子的杰出代表。早年12岁时就写出了“振衣帕米尔，濯足太平洋”的豪言
1911年，辛亥革命爆发，正在定州高等学校学习的王森然因剪掉发辫并鼓励同学响应革命被开除。辛亥革命胜利后，被校方迎回学校。1917年汇编了《河北民歌》。1919年初王森然考入保定直隶高等师范国文专修科。王森然在其启蒙老师邓中夏影响下，1921年3月，与进步同学组织了“新文化研究会”、“新教育协进会”等进步学术团体，均被选为会长。1922年6月王森然到保定甲种工业学校任新文化教员，以后又兼任直隶保定第二女子师范学校国文教员。1923年8月，王森然应邀到冀州创办直隶省立第六师范学校。1924年2月，应校长杜斌丞之邀，来到陕西榆林中学，在该校传播民主进步思想，宣讲新文化运动。1927年撰写出了30万余字的《中学国文教学概要》，提出了比较系统的教育学思想和教学法理论。填补了我国教育学研究的一项重大空白。1928年王森然考入北京大学文史研究史学科，开始进行史学的学习和研究。从20年代中期起，他对文学进行了广泛而深入的研究。1930年他将研究成果汇集为《文学新论》。1939年，任北京师范大学历史教授，兼任北京女子师范大学教授。抗日战争胜利后，任北京中国大学教授，同时兼任天津河北省立女子师范学院教授。1942年，发表诗作《杀！杀！杀！》，吹响了彻底砸烂旧世界的号角。同年又发表《无定河的壮歌》。此后又写了《心儿何时爆裂？》、《炸弹之魂》等，并把它们辑成诗集《星儿》。在创作大量诗歌的同时，他还写了小说《露白之死》、舞蹈哑剧《乱舞之场》以及《汉海之礁》、《回到悲惨的梦里去》等作品。揭露了反动军阀的丑恶嘴脸，宣传了爱国主义思想。1948年4月，受地下党的邀请在北平东交民巷使馆区，秘密讲授马克思主义哲学。全国解放前夕，应陶铸的邀请，被聘为中国人民解放军武汉军和会顾问及中南区临时政府文教接管部副主任，参加了当时的文教组织工作。新中国成立后，他到北京中央美术学院任教。作品有《松鹤朝阳》、《群鹰图》和《长寿图》等。1944年、1946年、1979年三度在北京举办个展。年王森然学术研究会等单位于中国美术馆举办“王森然遗作展”。著有《文学新论》、《近代二十家评传》、《近代百家评传》、《中国剧目辞典》等；为古著《山水论》、《山水诀》、《青在堂画学浅说》、《梦幻居画学简明》作今译和注释。遗嘱将十万元捐献给教育事业，后设为中央美术学院美术史系“王森然奖学金”。出版有《文学新论》、《近代二十家评论》等。标点注释有《山水论·山水诀》、《画学浅说》、《梦幻居画学简明》。撰写有《回忆齐白石先生》等。
