1962年9月生，中国艺术研究院中国画院国家一级美术师（曾任湖北省美术院副院长）。国家艺术基金聘评专家，中国美术家协会会员，中国工艺美术协会会员，中国美术家协会河山画会副秘书长，中国画学会理事，享受政府专项津贴。
1962年9月17日，出生于武汉市属虎，家居汉阳钟家村父亲周歧荣，母亲秦汉香；
1965年9月，入武汉市汉阳区钟家村幼儿园，喜欢画画；
1969年9月，就读武汉市汉阳区五里墩小学一年级、父亲在此学校任校长；
1970年转学到汉阳区建桥小学二年级任班长，喜欢临摹连环画；
1972年当时全国形式批林批孔，常被老师请去画漫画；
1975年9月，就读于武汉市第二十三中学初中一年级，常与同学逃学到古琴台看古迹、对墙上刊刻的书法常常心摹手追，对石台四边的浮雕更是喜欢、上面的人物、树石百看不厌；
1977年美术老师要在暑期培养我画素描，可惜当时去母亲单位湖北省电影机械厂打工去了，第一次有了工资开始订连环画和富春江画报；
从小学三年级开始到高中一年级一直任班宣传委员，包办班上的黑板报；
1978年由于母亲单位在汉口万松园分了一套新房，全家搬迁过去、转学到武汉市五十六中学、与现在的妻子是同班同学；
经父亲朋友介绍拜刚退休的画家闻立三先生为师，开始临摹芥子园画传，很是勤奋，临摹印刷品雪景寒林图；
1979年转学到武汉市六十八中学到美术组跟武汉市模范教师魏老师学习素描、色彩，国画三幅作品被武汉市外事部门选拔到日本大分市收藏，并发了证书和6元钱以资鼓励；
1980年6月，在68中学加入共青团；全家搬回汉阳区父亲教育局分的新房，近邻汉阳归元寺与佛有缘；7月，随父亲游庐山并于小天池作水墨写生；
1980-1981年小半年在汉阳区月湖小学校办印刷厂打工——拉板车送货，过江汉大桥上下坡非常陡很辛苦；白天上班，晚上临摹郑午昌山水画；
1981年5月，正式到湖北省电影机械厂附属工厂当工人，开始与吴翠兰恋爱；
1981年用约两个月的工资购得上海书画出版社出版《中国古代名画选》（上海博物馆藏品）欣喜若狂；
1982年在进行电焊时由于铁渣掉到鞋子里将脚烧伤，正式请长假开始复习文化课、画素描、色彩、静物；
1983年高考录入武汉市江汉大学美术系装潢专业；年底与同学逃课第一次到北京参观各种外国设计与绘画展览，并游颐和园、故宫等景区，在劳动人民文化宫一个小房子里看了吴冠中小型画展，北京之行大开眼界；
1984年系统学习素描、色彩、设计，课余时间读了大量书籍对西方绘画产生浓厚兴趣，临摹了雷诺啊、梵高等作品；8月，到红安大别山张家田地区水粉写生历时十余天；
1985年向往达利等超现实艺术、对包豪斯设计理论进行了深入学习，尤其深入学习研究了三大构成，对后来的中国画创作起到极大作用；
1986年第二次到北京在中央美院、中国美术馆参观、学习，毕业设计创作《青春》，评为优秀；被学校推荐到武汉市装饰装潢职业中专任专职教师；7月，乘火车路过南昌、参观八大山人纪念馆，到福州游鼓山、厦门鼓浪屿；9月，正式任教；
1987年9月，周石峰与吴翠兰结婚并赴桂林度蜜月，饱览了桂林漓江雨雾中的山水；白天教书、晚上回家临摹石涛山水画；
1988年大年初二与大学同学去河南峻县寻古迹，拾回古瓦当、砖雕，到村子找到泥人张买了十几个泥朔，很是古朴为此对民间艺术产生浓厚兴趣，开始创作以农村为题材的山水人物作品《无题》等；
1989年中国画《无题》获由中国《美术》杂志社组织的大陆、香港、台湾三地联合主办“当代中国水墨新人展”佳作奖（二等奖），与陈平、卢禹舜、田黎明等同获二等奖；5月20日，在中国美术馆开幕，并受邀参加领奖，王琦、邵大箴等参加了开幕式，盛况空前；此时学潮期间天安门开始宣布戒严，21日由北京西返武汉晚点6小时、回到武汉人涌如潮汽车已不能通过长江大桥、步行回到家中，甚险；
1989年带学生赴长江三峡写生、途径大宁河，宿大昌、次日到奉节山中大雾，转而轻烟山水如梦境，受大自然启发开始研究并创作轻烟山水；
1990年11月，游徐州，参观李可染故居；
1991年命名斋号“天风楼”；拜冯今松先生为师并请冯老师题斋号；6月，工笔画参加湖北省美展；10月，赴山东临沂参加全国首届中国山水画邀请展，登泰山南天门逛天街；
1992年论文《平面设计在中国画中得运用》专业杂志发表；7月，带学生到湖北兴山、高岚、神龙架写生；
1993年6月，调入湖北省工艺美术研究所中国画研究室，入中国工艺美术协会会员；应邀赴安徽合肥参加中国美术家协会主办的全国首届中国山水画展作品《高山仰止》获优秀奖；
1994年8月，携妻子、女儿上黄山。夜宿西海饭店，巢湖画院董曙光兄接待并为我们买飞机票回武汉；
1995年父亲于武汉市汉阳区教育局纪委书记正处级职位退休；创作《晨风》被中国文化部收藏；
1996年11月，应许宏泉之邀周石峰陪吴丈蜀老赴安徽和州参加许宏泉画展；与亚明老、陈传席先生、董曙光兄一同上黄山，又陪吴老参观了林之散纪念馆；
1997年1月，雪中游黄山、到泾县宣纸厂看望朋友；2月，陪同冯今松老师、汪师母到景德镇画瓷器；到婺源、休宁、泾县等地游览，对古徽州文化产生浓厚兴趣；7月，应谢定超之邀游四川广元，剑门关；7月，应邀赴深圳参加河山画会10周年画展，山水画作品参展并收藏；
1998年创作《夏木垂阴》入选《当代中国山水画·油画风景展》，应邀赴北京参加开幕式和酒会，孙家正部长到会祝贺；作品收入大画集和中国画精品集；
1999年9月，景德镇画瓷器租柳叶舟渡九江返汉；10月27日，父亲因病去世、心情沉痛；购《五代北宋画集》沉浸在宋画之中；
