姜西，字戏之，艺名，“金陵牡丹姜”1940年出生于江苏省沭阳县，汉族，1963年毕业于南京师范大学美术系。在校期间受吕斯百，黄显之，傅抱石，陈之佛，杨健侯，陈大羽等老师指导。毕业后分配到南京市人民政府担任市长秘书工作，后任南京市文联美术家协会秘书长，副主席。
姜西是国家一级美术师，中国美术家协会会员，江苏省妹协理事，南京东慈书画院院长，联合国亚洲文化艺术家联合会会员，全球环境文化艺术大师，南京财经学院教授，西澳大利亚科文大学教授。2004年由中国商标局成功注册“金陵牡丹姜”印章，成为书画界具有艺名商标注册的画家第一人。
曾多次在新加坡，马来西亚，美国，澳大利亚，新西兰，北京，广州，山东，江苏举办个人画展。展品分别由大使馆，美术馆。博物馆及展览馆收藏。部分作品分别在上海书画出版社，江苏人民出版社，江苏美术出版社，北京中央文献出版社及《书与画》，《江苏文联50年画集》，《江苏美术50年画集》，《开国总理百年情》出版和刊登。
论文出版有：《浅谈花鸟画章法》，《文艺复兴谈》，《书画连两岸》，《海峡通情深》，《难忘的澳洲一日游》，《花鸟画创作谈》，《艺术百家》。
