符友明，出生于1942年，1960年毕业于陕西省西安艺师美专。选后从事过美术教学，午台美术设计、电影宣传画制作工作，1982年始供职于汉中地区艺术馆担任指导、辅导、研究等工作至今；1993年考取“中国美术家协会举办的中国画研修班”毕业。现为中国美术家协会会员，汉中市美术家协会常务副主席兼秘书长，汉中市群众艺术馆副研究馆员，汉中市文联委员，中国画研究会副研究员，陕西美术院副研究员，中国三峡画院高级画师，中（港澳台）日韩新书画家友好联盟会理事、高级画师，长江艺术家美术馆代理人。
早年与中国“长安画派”著名艺术家石鲁、方济众等先生学画，执作追求、勇于探索、大胆创新，把中国传统山水技法、审美意识有机的结合起来，将泼墨、破墨、抽象、意象变形夸张、晕染等融为一体，既保留中国民族艺术深醇的内涵、又体现时代精神、开拓新的审美境界。他的作品，展现在人们面前的一幅幅宁静清新的山乡气息、令人导味，给人以启迪。他对艺术追求的是“描绘繁杂之纯净，捕捉具体之抽象，填写充实之虚无”。不断探索不断创新。1997年，深入生活徒步汉江三千余里，创作了百米长卷《汉水千里图》。他多次举办个人画展，创作作品曾参加全国六届美展，多次荣获省、全国及台湾、香港、日本、韩国、加拿大、法国等国际大展获奖，收藏和出版。个人传略和作品分别入录《中国当代国画家辞典》、《中国青年画家荟萃集》、《中国民间名人录》、《中国当代书画篆刻名家集》、《中国美术家辞典》、《93中国美术家年鉴集》、《中国美术名人名作博览集》、《中国当代艺术界名人录》、《中国现代美术家人名大辞典》、《中国当代美术家人名录》、《中国当代书画家辞典》等。
