徐天许（1898-1994）1898年2月（清光绪戌戊年）出生，1976年退休，1994年2月逝世。曾名徐兴许，别号西陵浪客、括苍浪客、嵩溪村人、闲髯、嵩溪村叟、京畿老民等。浦江县嵩溪村（今属白马镇）人。父永成工书画。天许只读过半年初中，即因家贫辍学充当裱画店、染坊学徒。后立志苦读。1934年毕业于杭州艺术专科学校，为林风眠、潘天寿、李苦禅入室弟子。先后执教于衢州中学、浙西一中、英士大学、台州师范、沈阳师范学院、辽阳师范学院和中央工艺美术学院，从事美术与中国画教学40余年。其间创作数以千计的作品。
40年代即在浙、皖、赣等地举办数十次画展。60年代初，在中国美术家协会支持下，与潘天寿同时在北京举办个人画展。1981年，与李苦禅、王雪涛等在武汉举行《首都名画家书画联展》，并常有作品在日本、美国等展出。他主张笔墨与技法应继承祖国绘画优秀传统，而取材与形象应以现实生活为主。在技法上，提出“线不可乱，点不可散，面不可板”。为中国美术家协会会员。擅花乌，鱼虫、走兽乃至人物无所不及，尤以鹰、鹫和游鱼著称。其代表作《群鹫图》，气势恢宏，笔墨雄健，李苦禅见之赞道：“天许功力深厚，吾不及也！”潘天寿对其用笔用墨亦颇多赞赏。兼工书法，善诗文。1978年双目失明，终年96岁。遗著有《天许画稿》、《天许小画片》、《天许画论》、《国画教材》、《国画画稿》等。子雅青亦善花鸟。
