张尔宾，江苏睢宁人，1944年生于南京。中央文史研究馆书画院研究员，江苏省文史研究馆馆员，国家一级美术师，南京十竹斋艺术研究部主任研究员，南京昆曲社艺术顾问，南京山水画研究会副会长，南京书画院研究员，南京博物院特聘画师，（新华社）新华书画院特聘画师，（民盟）江苏国风书画院院长，南京市第十、十一、十二届人大代表，江苏省海外联谊会常务理事，文艺艺术委员会副主任。
张尔宾长期坚持民族绘画传统的学习、创作和研究。先后师从许公泽、钱松嵒、林散之、高二适、亚明、宋文治等名家学习诗文书画，经受过正统严格的传统文化和传统绘画技法训练。他笃信“转益多师是吾师”的信条，对宋、元、明、清诸家的认识特别是沈石田、石涛、石溪、八大、程邃，以及以龚贤为首的金陵八家等大师的作品心摹手追，对近代黄宾虹、傅抱石、李可染大师的作品也悉心研究，他还足履名山大川，到真山真水中领悟真情，以先贤为师，以造化为师，力图融会贯通，自辟蹊径，因而形成了蕴厚含蓄，灵动多变的个人风貌。二十世纪八十年代初，他为南京清凉山崇正书院创作大型壁画《石城雪霁》，绘制并出版了《金陵山水名胜五十景》，《中国名山胜迹图》，《群峰竞秀》巨幅长卷，《春江花月夜诗乐画卷》等系列作品，还有《太行天下脊》、《三峡诗画》、《钟山四景》、《烟雨莫愁湖》等代表作品。他在创作的同时结合实践研读画史画论，他认为“笔墨性情”是中国画的美学品格和审美标准，体现了中国画的写意精神，他把自己学习创作研究过程概括为练、悟、变，主张以变为新，常变常新。创办和主持《十竹斋艺谈》专栏，多篇论文著述和作品在国内外各大报刊发表，多次参加国内外画展，作品为各博物馆、美术馆、画廊和收藏家收藏。其个人传略被编入多部名人辞典。
