胡炜David，1972年生于上海。1995年毕业于华东师范大学艺术系中国画专业；1998年华东师范大学艺术系研究生毕业；2002年华东师范大学中文系古代文学专业博士研究生毕业。2008年至2009年，在瑞士伯尔尼大学作为访问学者进修艺术史。2014年3月-6月瑞士伯尔尼大学客座教授。2016年4月-2016年7月柏林洪堡大学“鲁道夫-阿恩海姆”客座教授。
现为同济大学建筑与城市规划学院副教授，中国美术家协会会员，德国柏林Humboldt-forum博物馆建筑处顾问专家，日中文化交流协会会员，民革上海香山书画社副社长，恒源祥香山画院兼职画师。出版专著《从复古思潮到逸品意识—论元代绘画创作思想的演变》、《胡炜画册》、《胡炜室内壁画艺术作品选》等。
