广东澄海人，现为国家一级美术师、中国美术家协会会员、中国版画家协会会员。广东省美术家协会常务理事、汕头画院院长。作品多次参加全国性展览，被国家选送至世界二十多个国家展出。版画《山村十月》入选中国版画百年回顾展，中国画《夏》入选百年中国画展。版画《南天丽日》和中国画《根深叶茂》分别获第六届、第九届全国美展铜牌奖。1996年获中国版画家协会颁发的“鲁迅版画奖”。曾在香港、澳门，台北、新加坡、吉隆坡、曼谷、洛杉矶、旧金山，悉尼和北京等城市举办国画个展。不少作品被中国美术馆、中国美术家协会，艺术馆，博物馆等单位和收藏家收藏。出版有《杜应强水墨画集》、《杜应强版画集》。《杜应强画集·百榕图》、《杜应强山水画集》、《杜应强榕树与牛·水墨系列》等二十多册著作。
