梅尚白幼名悦尧，1927年出生于浙江文成（原属青田）就读温师。童年即嗜书画，曾得名师指点。1949年参加革命工作后仍坚持创作师法造化，学习传统，取众所长，追求雅俗共赏。擅山水、松鹤、梅花、虎兼及其它。60年代初即由上海人民美术出版社出版过单幅彩印画片和插画。作品曾多次在北京、省、市、县展出并获奖，在全国性书画大奖赛中曾获过一等奖、银奖、优秀等。画作先后被刊入《中国美术全集》、《中国画集》、《中国当代著名书画家珍品选》等等大型画册。业绩入编《中国当代老年书画家大辞典》、《中国历代书画名家大辞典》、《世纪中国名家艺术大典》等十多部辞书上，曾有不少画作被流传到欧洲很多国家及被国内有关单位和个人收藏。现为中国老年书画研究会会员、浙江省老干部美术家协会会员、丽水市美协会员、县政协书画之友社成员、县美协理事、县老年书画研究会会长、北京中国人才研究会艺术家学部艺术委员、淮海书画院名誉院长等等。又为中华当代书画研究会评为一级画师，授予国际银奖艺术家称号和“世纪功勋艺术家”称号。
