余辉，男，1959年出生于北京。1983年在南京师范大学美术系获学士学位，1990年在中央美术学院美术史系获硕士学位。同年赴故宫博物院从事书画陈列与研究工作，历任故宫博物院古书画部副主任、主任，现为中国人民政治协商会议第十一届全国委员会委员、故宫博物院科研处处长兼研究室、出版部主任，研究馆员，国家文物鉴定委员会委员。
在博物馆专业中，余辉主要从事陈列展览和学术管理工作，策划和协调了多次历代书画陈列和各种流派、专题的书画陈列，特别是在2004年“中法文化年”在巴黎作为中方策展人主持了大型展览《神圣的山峰》，2007年，作为中方策展人在布鲁塞尔和北京策展了《中国比利时绘画500年》。其学术领域主要是书画鉴定与研究，特别是利用民族学、文献学、考古学的研究成果尝试建立一套鉴定早期绘画的基本方法并使之理论化；用逻辑推理的手段解析古画中的图像，探知画史真相。曾在中国港、澳、台地区和英、法、德、美、加、日等国的博物馆、大学鉴定书画或讲学，发表研究论文四十余篇、专著五部，并在中、英、美、法、比、韩等国发表。2009年获首届中国美术理论奖。
