徐公度擅长美术教育，1965年毕业于湖北艺术学院美术系油画专业。在武汉师范学院分院艺术系任教，1980年调江汉大学艺术系，主讲美术学理论课程，教授、艺术系副主任，武汉市美协副主席。主编《世界美术鉴赏词典》、《外国美术史及作品鉴赏》等词典与教材。发表《花鸟画的“图式”说》等论文多篇。编撰摄制《绘画的世界》等美术电视系列片。
1940年生，江苏吴县人。
1965年毕业于湖北艺术学院油画系。
1978年—1980年武汉师范学院汉口分院艺术系任教，讲师。
1980年—2002年江汉大学艺术系任教，副教授，教授。
2003年—2007年华中科技大学武昌分校艺术系任教，教授。中国美术家协会会员，中华全国美学学会会员。
长期从事绘画及美术学理论教学与研究，发表《论绘画的本质》、《夸张与变形》、《花鸟画的几个审美问题》、《花鸟画的“图式”说》、《中国史前雕刻起始的初探》、《论新石器时代的中国彩陶与西亚彩陶》、《我国古代岩画特色的浅探》、《服装美学寻探》等20余篇学术论文。
主编及参编《世界美术鉴赏词典》、《西方现代艺术词典》、《中华小百科：艺术卷》、《少年知识大全：美术部分》等多部美术辞典；主编美术教育电视片《绘画的世界》（30集）、《居室美化》（12集）；编撰高校美术史教材《西方美术史及作品鉴赏：现代美术部分》等。
成就荣誉
曾获湖北省优秀中青年专家称号。
曾任江汉大学艺术系及华科大分校艺术系系主任，武汉市美术学学科带头人，武汉市美协副主席。
