颠道人 ，不知姓名，寓蒙山寺 。歌哭不常 ，人莫之测，或见其 煮石为饭者。会重阳，有邑贵载酒登临，舆盖而往，宴毕过寺，甫及 门，则道人赤足着破衲，自张黄盖，作警跸声而出，意近玩弄。邑贵 乃惭怒，挥仆辈逐骂之。道人笑而却走。逐急，弃盖，共毁裂之，片片化为 鹰隼，四散群飞。众始骇。盖柄转成巨蟒，赤鳞耀目。众哗欲奔，有同游者 止之曰:"此不过翳眼之幻术耳，乌能噬人!"遂操刃直前。蟒张吻怒逆， 吞客咽之。众骇，拥贵人急奔，息于三里之外。使数人逡巡往探，渐入寺， 则人蟒俱无。方将返报，闻老槐内喘急如驴，骇甚。初不敢前;潜踪移近之， 见树朽中空，有窍如盘。试一攀窥，则斗蟒者倒植其中，而孔大仅容两手， 无术可以出之。急以刀劈树，比树开而人已死。逾时少苏，异归。道人不 知所之矣。

异史氏曰:"张差游山，厌气浃于骨髓 。仙人游戏三昧，一何 可笑!余乡殷生文屏，毕司农之妹夫也，为人玩世不恭。章丘有周 生者，以寒贱起家，出必驾肩而行。亦与司农有瓜葛之旧。值 太夫人寿，殷料其必来，先候于道，着猪皮靴，公服持手本 。俟周 至，鞠躬道左，唱曰:'淄川生员，接章丘生员!'周惭，下舆，略致数语 而别。少间，同聚于司农之堂，冠裳满座，视其服色，无不窃笑;殷傲 睨自若。既而筵终出门，各命舆马。殷亦大声呼:'殷老爷独龙车何在?' 有二健仆，横扁杖于前，腾身跨之。致声拜谢，飞驰而去。殷亦仙人之 亚也。"

[1]颠:疯癫。

[2]蒙山:当指山东蒙山，在山东中部，蒙阴县南。

[3]不常:不正常。

[4]邑贵:本县中有权势的人。登临:登山临水;这里指登游蒙山。

[5]舆盖:坐轿张伞。盖，贵官出行时作为仪仗用的大伞。

[6]破衲:破旧僧服。按戒律规定，僧尼的衣服当用人们遗弃的碎布缝袖 而成，因而称僧服为"百衲衣"，简称为"衲"。

[7]作警跸(bì毕)声:发出"喝道"的声音。警跸，古时皇帝出入经过的 地方严加戒备，鸣鞭吆喝，驱散行人，称"警跸"。警，警戒。跸，清道、 禁止通行。

[8]翳(yì易)眼之幻术:迷惑他人视觉的幻术，俗称"障眼法"。翳，遮 蔽。

[9]人:据山东省博物馆抄本补，原阙。

[10]厌气:令人僧恶的俗气。浃:浸透。

[11]游戏三昧:此指游戏之事。三昧，梵语音译，意思是心性专注的精 神状态。佛教徒称自在无碍，排除杂念，使心神平静，叫"游戏三昧"。

[12]毕司农:淄川入毕自严，明代万历进士，官至户部尚书，故称他为 毕司农。司农，户部尚书的别称。

[13]玩世不恭:不拘礼法，藐视世俗。

[14]章丘:县名，今属山东省济南市。

[15]驾肩:坐轿。肩，肩舆，即轿子。

[16]瓜葛之旧:展转相连的远亲。

[17]太夫人:此尊称毕母。

[18]着猪皮靴，公服持手本:足着带毛猪皮靴，身穿生员服，手持拜见 名帖。殷生此等装束，后文又跨扁杖而去，都是玩世不恭的恶作剧，意在嘲 弄周生"以寒贱起家，出必驾肩而行。"按:明代功令，教坊妓者之夫，绿 巾绿带，着带毛猪皮靴:老病不准乘舆马，跨一木，令人肩之;脱籍三代， 准其捐考。孟森《跋〈聊斋志异·颠道人〉》曾作考证，见《心史丛刊》三 集。

[19]冠裳:犹言衣冠，官吏士绅的代称。

[20]傲睨自若:傲慢睥睨，态度自如。

[21]扁杖:扁担。即殷生谑称的"独龙车"。
