1976年获云南高等自学考试（云南大学）哲学专业大专文凭。
结业于解放军艺术学院培训班、云南艺术学院美术系油画专修班、天津《中国油画》人体油画研修班。
1986年油画《青春》入选《“南疆前线”全军美展》（北京），获军区银奖。
1989年油画获《云南省优秀美术作品展》铜奖（昆明）。
1992年油画《乌蒙回旋战大捷》入选《庆祝建军65周年全军美展》（北京）。
1992年油画《冬日的阳光》入选《第三届中国艺术节美术作品展》（昆明）。
2003年油画《春城你早》入选《云南公安系统‘金盾之光’美展》获金奖（昆明）。
2004年油画《演讲》等入选《第三届全国公安系统‘卫士之光’美展》获银奖、铜奖（北京）。
2006年油画《奶茶飘香》入选《云南全省政法系统首届书法绘画摄影展》获金奖（昆明）。
2007年油画《烈火金刚》荣获第九届全国‘金盾文化工程奖’金盾艺术将铜奖（北京）；油画《在祖国的蓝天下》获《警民共建和谐云南美展》银奖（昆明）。
油画数十次入选省市美展并获奖。
百余件油画在《中国油画》《美术报》《云南画报》等报刊发表。
油画被云南艺术学院和美国、巴西等机构及个人收藏。
2003年出版《中国实力派美术家-黄之方》个人油画专集。
