扇页有自题:“白衣不至酒尊闲,掩卷高吟深闭关。独向篱边把秋色,谁知我意在南山。戊戌秋日仿南田草衣法。亦南楷。”钤“楷”白文印、“亦南”朱文印,吟首钤“游于艺”白文印。
“戊戌”是清乾隆四十三年(1778年),钱楷时年约18岁。
图绘紫、红、白诸色菊花争芳斗艳的秋景。冷暖色调相互映衬,画面鲜亮明快。菊花为双勾填色,在极工中求意趣。叶为没骨晕染,不用笔勾线,直接上色点染,具有典型的恽氏没骨画风。此图右侧书录的是恽寿平的七言诗,其字的结体完全学恽氏的笔法,即在宗法唐褚遂良书风的基础上,得纤疏清逸的意趣,从而与其高雅秀迈的画风相得益彰。由此图可见,钱楷早年时学仿恽寿平的书风和画法,已达到惟妙惟肖的地步,正如裱边惠孝同题:“此扇字画具仿南田,是能得瓯香二昧者。”

Chrysanthemum is a double-checked color, seeking interest in extreme work. Ye is boneless and dizzy. It does not need to draw lines with pens. It is directly stained with dots. It has a typical Yun's boneless painting style. On the right side of this picture is a seven-character poem written by Yun Shouping. The structure of his characters is entirely based on Yun's brushwork, that is, on the basis of the patriarchal style of Tang Zhusui's good calligraphy, they have a delicate and elegant interest, which complements his elegant and graceful style of painting.
