池宁又名绍文。电影美术设计师。浙江温州人，生于浙江瑞安的美术世家。幼年随父、兄习金石和绘画，1931年曾在县立第七中学当教师，1933年在杭州开办“三川美术书社”，1935年被聘为上海亚平装潢公司的设计部主任，在美术界小有名气。1936年加入上海业余剧人协会。1938年加入中国共产党。后参加上海文化界救亡协会，为上海各报刊提供了许多鼓动抗战的美术作品，曾任上海艺术装饰公司美术设计，上海青鸟剧社、上海剧艺社舞台美术设计。1941年进入华年影业公司兼任布景师、美术师，开始接触电影美术工作，参加了《洪宣娇》、《国色天香》的拍摄。1942年后，赴苏北革命根据地在新四军军部盐城鲁迅问医学院工作团任教，后任上海同芪剧社、上海艺术剧团实验团担任《戏剧春秋》等剧目的演出部主任兼舞台美术设计，1946年进入上海实验电影二场担任美工师，并在《时代》出版社任美术编辑。1949年后，任上海市军管会文艺处电影室副主任。1954年赴苏联莫斯科电影制片厂实习。1956年回国后，历任北京电影制片厂美工师，曾担任《祝福》、《林家铺子》、《革命家庭》、《早春二月》（合作）等影片的美术设计，1959年起兼任北京电影学院美术系主任。
