Born in a wool merchant's family in Suffolk, England, his mother was a still life painter, so he received a good early art education, and then worked as an assistant with French painter Gerhoflott and worked with Heiman for some time. He was elected to the Royal Academy of Art in 1768. His works emphasize light, bold brush strokes and exquisite colors, which make him a favorite painter of the Royal family. Thomas Gensboro was born in Sudbury, Suffolk, England. He was the youngest son of his father, John Gensboro, a textile worker in Suffolk. When Thomas Gensboro was 13 years old, he showed an unusual talent for painting. In 1740, his father allowed him to go to London to study art.
