李咏森（1898~1998），江苏常熟人。民国13年（1924年）毕业于苏州美术专科学校。此后毕生在上海工作。20世纪20～50年代，历任《太平洋画报》编辑、中国化学工业社美术设计、上海美术专科学校图案系教授、苏州美专沪校副校长等职。1953年后曾任上海轻工业局日用化学公司美术设计组组长、上海轻工业专科学校教授、同济大学和新创立的上海美专教授。为中国美术家协会会员、中国美协上海分会理事、上海文史研究馆馆员。参与发起创立上海水彩画研究会和上海粉画学会，并分别担任名誉会长。精于水彩画，风格写实写意兼融。兼长工商美术设计和粉画。1988年，与夫人邵靓云于上海美术馆举行双人画展，并因将展出作品中的一部分捐献给美术馆，而获得上海市文化局奖状。
水彩画有《白菊花》、《绣球花》、《钢铁厂的早晨》等。
出版有《李咏森水彩画选》、《水彩画临本》、《水彩画技法》等。
咏森画语
画作的首要功能是给人美的感染，无论是具体还是抽象，古典还是现代，细腻还是粗犷，都应提炼美，表现美，成为反映自然美和人文美的载体。
我毕生从事水彩画创作、研究与教学，早期也研习国画。虽然这两者一是西画，一是国粹，
在我看来，在表现技法上却有其相通之处。两者都是以水为媒介，用笔、用色和对水分的控制要求颇为一致。所不同者，水墨画是通过宣纸本身对水分的吸收渗化过程，达到墨色溶合，深浅虚实的效果。水彩则是以颜料与水直接溶合的比重不同，在不渗水的画纸上表现画面的明暗对比与透明润泽。因此，我在画作中，常将水彩与国画技法交融使用，到亦别具一格。
热爱生活，热爱自然，就能从平凡、真实的景物中发现美感，产生表现生活，反映真、善、美的强烈欲望。写实派的画风，就是要在反映真实中，发现美、表现美。如：城市建筑的韵律美；亭台园林的古典美；工地的开阔壮观；自然的鬼斧神工；返璞归真的乡间情趣；花卉草木的勃勃生机。
作画要投入真情。不动情、不写景。要寓情于景，在天人合一的境地中作画，作品才能脱离照相式的呆板，达到形神兼备，情景交融。
作画要细观察、多吸收、勤创作。我写生的各种花卉，觉大多数都亲自种植过。从发芽、开花到落叶，清晨、傍晚的不同情态和枝叶花冠的结构，都观察得一清二楚。知其所以然，作画时的组合、取舍，就心中有数，游刃有余。
从师学画，能比较集中地吸取老师的画风。然而学无止境，艺海无涯，要善于吸取各家之长，自成一格，才能青出于蓝而胜于蓝。推动艺术的发展。
野外写生很辛苦。我最后一年去外地写生是1985年，去普陀山和雁荡山。那年我88岁。为了找个好景点，不惜撑着拐杖，翻山越岭。找到合适的景点，顾不得蚊叮虫咬，日晒雨淋。离开生活的积累，一切创作都会变成无本之木，无水之源，也不会有生命力的。

十八世纪的泰纳英，以后，水彩逐渐成了独立的画种。任伯年曾在我国的传统笔墨中融汇了一些水彩画的技法，他常用色彩对比来突出主题，或充分运用水份来烘托空间感，增加画面效果。
水彩画性能有局限，但并不能说它不能表达很高的思想性，也不能断定它不能表现主题鲜明的题材。国外水彩画也有表现社会生活题材的。
