张国材男，1943年4月生，陕西省人。1965年毕业于内蒙古师大美术系。执教于内蒙古建筑学校。任世界文化艺术研究中心研究员，美国海外艺术家协会理事，中华民族文化艺术研究所研究员、教授，中国艺术研究院文研中心特聘书画师，中原书画研究院名誉院长，内蒙古文史研究馆馆员等职务。系中国水彩画家协会会员，中国建筑师学会会员，中国美术家协会内蒙古分会理事，内蒙古水彩画研究会首任会长等。
30多年来，他在内蒙古的艺术和教育园地里辛勤耕耘，在美术教学中他探索出一套："因材施教，因势利导，个别传授，各有侧重，求异存同、培养个性"的教学法，取得了颇好的教学效果，培养出一批又一批建筑师和装饰专业人才。在美术创作中他潜心钻研水彩画和学术理论的研究不断创新，获得累累硕果。其水彩画艺术清新、丰润、写实、抒情、形成了具有浓郁民族地区特色的艺术风格。作品多次参加国际和全国水彩画大展。水彩画《沙石》、《塞外》、《牧归》、《漠中行》、《驼铃声声》等多幅作品在国内外参展、发表、并获奖。《草原月夜》入选《世界美术集》、《西夏黑城》入选《世界当代著名书画家真迹博览大典》、《草原风雪》入选《中国美术选集》等多部美术作品专集。1999年8月《张国材美术作品集》出版。他的艺术成就和传略已被选入《世界名人录》、《世界美术家传》、《国际现代书画名家教授大辞典》、《世界华人文学艺术界名人录》，1999年被授予《20世纪国际艺术名家教授成就大奖》荣誉证书。
