文小苗，女，1948年生于重庆市。文小苗出生于艺术世家，其父文闻子先生是我国著名的水彩画家。文小苗早年就读于四川美术学院附属中等美术专业学校，1972年至1983年在凉山州艺术馆从事美术创作工作；后在四川省艺术馆进行美术创作工作。文小苗早年善长于年画、连环画，1980年创作的《浴牛图》是这一时期的代表作。《滟滪石》是文小苗连环画的代表作，文小苗在连环画的创作中，引入了中国传统工笔重彩的元素，开创了连环画的新画风；1984年，文小苗创作的年画《打蹬蹬》参加第六届全国美术作品展览；其后，文小苗转入了中国工笔画的创作领域，1995年中国画《正午》参加中国女美术家作品展；1999年中国画《绿荫怀抱》参加第九届全国美术作品展览。文小苗的工笔画细腻优美朴实，其表现多为其自己生活的周边。1994年，文小苗在新加坡举行了个人工笔画展，其作品全部为海外收藏，取得了巨大的成功。
文小苗是我国著名的工笔画家，副研究员职称，现为中国美术家协会会员。
