字子博，北京人。幼即从事雕塑，善捏泥人、面人，人称“面人汤”。修配出土陶器文物，艺极精湛。尝将所作送中央美术学院雕塑系供参考。曾任天津三益公司泥塑创作员，北京矿冶实验所陶瓷创作员，中央工艺美术学院研究室面塑工作室创作研究员。作品有《洛神》、《宝玉观棋》、《三战吕布》。1949年以后应聘到中央美术学院任教，曾和“泥人张”第三代张景祜共同研究民间彩塑艺术。中国美术家协会会员。1956年出版有《汤子博面塑》一书。?事迹收录在《民间艺人录》。
