原名吴树之、吴彭年，笔名平尼。福建云霄人。擅长版画、水墨画。1948年毕业于上海美术专科学校西画系。三十年代末参加鲁迅先生倡导的新兴版画运动，1941年加入中华全国木刻界抗敌协会，1945年初加入中国木刻用品合作工厂，参与筹备东南木刻巡回展。抗战胜利后，参加“抗战八年木刻展”，并进上海美专。1948年参加浙东游击队后在军队工作。1958年创办《浙江画报》，主持浙江人民美术出版社工作。主要作品《播种者》、《搬运夫》(早期作品)、《今日大陈岛》参加第六届世界青年联欢节，另有作品《老游击队员》、《飞向太平洋》、《牧驼图》、《反弹琵琶》、《觅》等。部分作品为中国美术馆等收藏。1991年荣获“纪念新兴版画60年”奖章。
