方湘侠，男，中共党员，研究馆员（教授），中国美术家协会会员。
1940年7月出生于湖南长沙，原籍福建莆田。1961年毕业于湖北艺术学院（现湖北美术学院）美术系中国画专业。1964年调入湖北省群众艺术馆，先后任美术编辑、美术辅导干部，1984年任副馆长至2000年底退休。2002年5月受聘武汉科技大学中南分校，任艺术学院院长到2011年。曾任湖北美术协会副主席、湖北省科普美术家协会理事长、湖北地区独立学院及分校美术与设计教学促进会（筹）会长。
作品中国画《运石图》入选第一届中国科普美展，年画《欢乐的日子》、国画《欲飞》参加第六届、第八届全国美展。1980与陈立言、杨奠安、贺飞白、韦江琼等人组建“申社”，国画《新影片》等多幅作品参加“申社”在天津、西安、武汉等地联展。1987年主持湖北民间美术搜集、整理工作，筹办《湖北民间美术展》并进京参加了第一届中国艺术节。主编《湖北民间美术集》六部画册，获得湖北省政府第一届图书将。曾受文化部和省政府委派，出访塞浦路斯、美国、日本。
