杨国光，男，1937年9月生，甘肃兰州市人。现为中国美术家协会会员，甘肃省文史研究馆馆员，香港美术学院荣誉教授，甘肃画院特聘院外画家，西北师范大学美术系副教授。
少时得到著名画家王天一、黄胄的启蒙，资质聪颖，天赋过人。1955年至1961年就读于西安美术学院附中、西安美术学院国画系，上学时师从刘文西、郑乃光、王子云、张义潜、石鲁等名家。毕业后留校任教，1975年调入西北师范大学大学美术系任教至退休。擅长素描、速写、工笔、写意等画种。在艺术实践中，对中国画进行深入研究与探索，笃钟于“外师造化，中发心源”的创作方法。他多以花鸟和人物为题材，注重作品的文化内涵，精于艺术语言探索，吸收古今中外的优秀传统，形成了苍劲雄浑、朴实无华的艺术风格。作品设色淡雅，构图清新，格调飘逸。
部分作品曾在国内及台湾、香港地区和美国、日本、菲律宾等国展出，并在国内外数十种报刊、杂志、画刊上刊登，数百幅作品被国内外博物院等单位和个人收藏。作品多次获奖，其中《陇原清景图》、《勤读图》、《牧趣图》参加全国性美展均获一等奖，《秋高图》、《牧趣》获美国全球艺术家百科全书和纽约名人传记金帆奖，同时获世界著名艺术家称号。《陇原牧趣图》入选1999年全国文史研究馆书画精品展。其艺术传略、业绩和作品被收入《中国现代美术家人名大辞典》、《中国当代国画家辞典》、《世界艺术家名人录辞典》等多部辞书中。
